you have to contact XBOX tech to get port numbers then call ISP and get them to walk you through opening them, an hour of pain for a tonne of gain  like I said in our convo , I spent over 5 hours between Xbox / Dlink / Bell figuring this out...

I know I am rock solid.

The ports you need to forward to the Xbox for Live are 88 (UDP) and 3074 (TCP & UDP).

I have connected to my Belkin Pre-N router. Put the 360 on the DMZ with a static IP address. That put my NAT settings to "OPEN", and now I am able to connect to swiper.

This seems to be the key. If your settings for the Network Test say "moderate" or "strict" for NAT you cannot connect to some players.

It won't make your connection faster, but it will open up ports so that your Xbox will connect to Live correctly. If your routers NAT shows up as Moderate or Strict to Live then that means it is potentially blocking some ports that Live uses to connect users, which is the main reason why people sometimes get dropped from a game or cannot connect at all.

on your 360 dash board go to the farthest blade to the right ( System )
    Scroll down to Network Settings
    Test Xbox Live Connection
    there you should see :

    Network Adapter:
    IP Address: CONFIRMED
    DNS: CONFIRMED
    MTU: CONFIRMED
    ICMP: CONFIRMED
    Xbox Live: Connected
    NAT: OPEN

at the very bottom right you will see Edit settings highlighted , click that to obtain your IP address....

enter that in DMZ and you should be good to go

Thats the same setup that i have then. I have that problem sometimes when i just start up the wireless adapater. It goes to get IP then fails. Try rebooting your router, that always fixes it for me.
