    How to put your 360

For those who are having problems with their 360 service and want to put it on a DMZ on your router.

My example is with a standard linksys router

    Step one
-Login to your router, default ip is :192.168.1.1
Factory default password is "password", login is blank

Step 2 - Get your xbox 360's IP Address
Goto the "status" tab, then the sub menu "Local Network"
Click on the DHCP Clients Table

This will show you everyone thats currently connected to your router. If your xbox 360 is on it will show up here.
Look under client names, your xbox 360 won't register a client name

    Step 3 - Put your 360 on a DMZ

Goto the tab "Applications & Gaming"
    Click on "DMZ" sub menu.
Now put your 360's IP Address on a dmz.

Your router may reboot. And you should be good to go!

If anyone has a d-link router, could you please post the same tutorial

The Dlink setup is very similar to what Tris posted:

type the router IP address in your browser default is: 192.168.0.1

username is Admin and password is left asa blank field (unless you set a personal password)

The 1st screen you will see is this:

click on the DMZ tab to the left and you will see this:

enter the IP address for your 360 and click the "ENABLE" Radio button and select APPLY . That's all there is to it....

    don't blame 2k, blame Tris 8)

one thing I forgot to add to my blurb above, please reset router & modem after the above steps...

I ran into an issue where my NAT was mysteriously switched to STRICT from OPEN, a reboot of Modem & Router fixed that issue.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALSO MAKE SURE THAT THE NAT SETTING IS OPEN AND NOT STRICT.

To check your NAT setting do the following:

    360 dashboard

    select System Blade

scroll to test Xbox live connection

and the last test is NAT setting it will be either OPEN or STRICT

Strict is what is preventing people from connecting , open is smooth sailing....

so how you do "open" it? mine is in moderate. when i went to my gateway for the NAT info. it says "Warning: Please do not disable NAT unless instructed to do so by your ISP. Turning off NAT will open your DSL Gateway to outside intrusion, creating a security risk."

so i dont know if i should touch it. i have some extra $$ to buy a modem/gateway to have my xbox live connectivty to be no problem. what should i buy?
