Great review there. I'm going to have to race out and pick this up. Seriously, what do you "love" about this game. How does it compare to Forza 2? I played the demo at lunch and thought it was very touchy steering. I could see some serious online issues with accidents.
God. These challenges are EASILY some of the hardest video game-related things I've ever done. As in, throw-controller hard. This Martinsville pack navigation one blows holy hell.
Yeah, the superspeedway challenges weren't... TOO bad, but I just ran through the COT short track challenges... dear god. I had to turn the assists down from 'hardcore' to 'veteran' because I was spinning out just about every other lap. I refuse to believe anyone could drive consistently on 'hardcore' with a controller, heh. What irks me is that the challenges are so gawdawful hard, yet the 'contract' races are just as easy as the challenges are hard.
I ran a few online races last night and I can say that the online infrastructure is not even CLOSE to being able to support a league. It's way too laggy, way too inconsistent, and way too difficult. Not only did I not see a single other car that wasn't 'teleporting' to some degree, but I actually finished 1st in two separate races, and wasn't credited with a win either time (the last race I ran I won in a 9-car field, crossed the finish line with everyone behind me, got the "you finished 1st" and "good job!' radio messages, yet I see the results screen and it shows me in *8th*!). Not only that, whenever someone joins or disconnects (or is talking), it shows that with largish-text RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. I'm liking the driving model more and more as I play it, but it's clear this game needed an extra year or so (which is unfathomable considering they skipped the next-gen version last year, so they've had plenty of time).
What do you guys think of the game for those that have it?I'm not what one would call a skilled driver. Heck I suck at driving games, but I think I could turn left over and over. I'm curious to know about customization options too. I can live out my Ricky Bobby wannabe fantasy.
Pfft...I did that in the demo. Used the bad boy of the league (Tony Stewart), and instead of racing, I just went the wrong way to cause crashes. Ah...Nascar '98 memories.
I dont remember. I just remember it was the only NASCAR game I played and liked. Since then...its left turns with a minor graphics update and a roster change.
There's a pretty high learning curve (unless you play with all assists on, I guess), and it's completely unlike any other console racing game I've ever played. When it's set to 'hardcore' (no assists), I'd say it's considerably more difficult than Forza 2 with no assists (well, except Daytona and Talladega, which are easy tracks to drive). Customization pretty much blows. There's not much you can do.
I will not be picking this up. I was so close to getting it yesterday, but after early comments and playing the demo...I backed off..Thank God.
demo was bad, the game itself is a lot better than what you read. i read some complaints etc still bought it and was glad i did.. plays really well IMO.. i was gonna take it back if i did not like it but i did and i'm not even a racing fan!!
I'll wait for the patch (NASCAR 2009  ) They will have to fix the yellow flag issue and the chat. I don't want to be distracted with a graphic in the middle of the screen everytime someone talks or joins/leaves the game  If they happen to patch it prior to next year's game...Let me know.
Alright, I just read a ton of reveiws, and it seems unanimous that this game is not very good. I guess I will take it out of my Q from gamefly. I get more and more disappointed with EA every year that goes by. Example: NBA live 06 and 07 were probably the WORST games ever made on the 360 and I am not joking. They continue to rape us of our money.
First off, I am not a fan of NASCAR so what I think of the demo might not apply to most people. I tried the demo and could not stand the steering. I also thought the graphics were brutal. I think it looked like a PS2 game or a gamcube game. Maybe the actual game is better, but if it is, EA needs to release better demos.
