Lgfa suggestions

Hello,

As we progress into future seasons, and with FIFA 16 right around the corner. I think it's important to hear from the community on what would be needed, or fixed so we can do more in the future to make things better for the community, and make things easier for the owners, managers, and everyone in the community.

Some of the things I have heard from people I have talked to is:


a) We need to get the draft lists, and signups fixed
b) More accurate selection of 3 stars, or maybe a TOTW like in other leagues

We need to hear more from you the community and things that would make the league stand-out..

 

Change/add leagues like the Bundesliga or La Lig or back to the BPL. (Expecially for the TC players so they don't just go unactive for the entire season)
I agree with the fixing the Daily 3 stars because it in my opinion is extremely inaccurate with the selections of who gets what star in certain situations .
Make the LGFA Forum seem more soccer specific because it feels like a rip off from the hockey side of the league if you understand what I'm trying to say with this.

I understand and hear you (meaning everyone whom has suggested it) but I do want to give you a little insight about all of the above.

The owner of the site wants us to prove stability, and a product worth the effort and time.
We already can see what he is capable of doing by what he has done for the hockey league. My understanding is that MANY issues are being addressed with the upgrade to LGv5. LGv5 IS his top priority right now. There will be NO changes as far as programming, changing leagues, or current functionality for ANY league (not just LGFA) until LGv5 has been released AND we prove our stability. Once we do that - I promise you he WILL do all we are asking for and more. He always has delivered beyond what's asked for when something desired or needed is proven to him.

So far - we have had 4 different sets of staff, a change of leagues, and constant issues of GMs, AGMs and Owners folding....along with players either trolling, trashing, not giving a damn, and most certainly LGFA NOT being a FOCUS or PRIORITY to members at ALL levels. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE....if we want the site and league to change into what we want it to be.

So while we all don't like various things about the league, tools/features, skills on the pitch, problems, drama or even constitution....the only way anyone is EVER going to make any progress is if we agree to focus on fixing the things that matter most. The things we can't get to...we put them on a list of things to fix....and regardless - we stick around and do what we can to fix them for the next season.

I'm NOT defending the LGFA's current status (though at least we have made it this far)....but part of my job as Commissioner is to lead the community (not just staff or owners/management) towards progress, growth and improvement. It's not just what WE can / can't do at the staff or management level. It's what do YOU make it into at the player level as well. EACH OF YOU ARE ARGUABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE LGFA.

In regards to the TIME of games. LGFA will ALWAYS conflict with something. VPN, WSL, VIFA, CHL, AHL, NHL etc etc. Again - we have to make it our own. And we have to make the LGFA into a product that members WANT to choose over others. IF any changes (about time or otherwise) are to be made....we should make them for our own reasons - NOT because of someone else's decision. Just imagine we find a convenient time around everyone else's - and then THEY change their time(s). We're going to find a new time to play? No. We make our own time where members WANT to be here. So - just keep anything that comes up with those perspectives...and keep your suggestions coming. When our voices get heard - we will be looking at these suggestions to decide how to best mold LGFA to it's next step.

The only league you shouldn't conflict with is VPN no one cares about other leagues.

 

I definitely think we should have a better daily stars system and a consistent TOTW. Maybe get the stat board updated just so people can see where we stand among other league leaders in respective stats

 

Well it's good to know that this stuff well be addressed at some point hopefully in the near future to inprove the leage once LGv5 is here. Thanks Bottomless Pit for the explanation about this stuff.

 

I want to put a suggestion of my own out there ...and this one is something for YOU...PLAYERS...to DO something to Improve the league yourselves.

Many of you don't even realize that you have an option...a choice...and the ability to mold and shape the league by having ONE unified voice as the player base. I will try to keep it short but you all know how long my posts get.

# of site owners: 1
# of site admins including owner: 3
# of staff: 6
# of owners: 12 (well at least there should be. right now we're at 11 officially)
# of management (excluding owners): 23 (should be 24)

About being management:

so first there's the obvious need for solid stable management. People able to step up and make roster and management choices for a team, time to do stats and lines and talk to other owners and staff to have a voice from a management perspective, etc. Stepping down from these roles results in a 2 season ban (or 3 towards the end of the season). IF you are interested in this...talk to existing management and staff about what is required.

HERE IS A KEY COMPONENT THAT IS MISSING:
# of Player's Association (PA) Reps including President and Vice-President: 0 (should be 2 at minimum)

The PA is responsible for vocalizing what player's think and want. They defend player's interests where possible as a group and individually in the Action Center decisions. When there is something the PA is representing and it is uncertain IF the players want it or need it, they are to motivate the players to express their opinions and prove their point (ie. rally the troops) through any way possible.

The PA votes on the constitution on behalf of the players when it comes to making changes in rules. This is why voting (even as players in threads) is important.

If you think the way scheduling is done is unfair, how many games a week you get to play, the roster choices management is allowed to make regarding waivers, transfers, bidding or anything else - THIS IS HOW YOU CAN POTENTIALLY CHANGE THE RULES OR INFLUENCE THOSE CHANGES.

Regarding keeping non-roster players active: there are many theories on how to do this. Making it work is a challenge. We need to know what YOU will actually be involved in that will also spark the interest of management. Please make your suggestions in this thread.

We should record tackles completed and attempted interceptions and clearances and maybe even blocked shots so that defense actually gets stats recorded because the stars for defense just depend who got a clean sheet which doesn't make sense because that doesn't reflect the individuals performance.

 

Personally - if LG can capture stats the way we know it can - i would like a whole slew of stats to be added to our stats systems. Even the general player performance stats for clubs in general (for scouting purposes) would help to distinguish who can actually play a position...even if they don't claim to. That would help make TC's a little more attractive to management. At least you'll have an educated guess based on where they spend their time as to weather they can play defense, offense or GK for example.

 

But I feel like I have to ask this about the changes and such. You say that these changes are going to be worked on after LGv5 is released but how long is that gonna take at the moment? Because this league seems to be having enough problems at the moment about various things and if we are going to have to wait much longer for these changes to happen this league could be dead in the water by then. I understand upgrading is priority at the moment but holding this stuff off any longer could make it even worse. Is there any way some changes could be made sooner rather than later?

 

For a game like fifa we do need to keep track of more player stats as said above. Your stats mean more when being scouted and it tells about your whole game, while what people see only shows your game partially. This should be possible to add on this season, maybe?

Game times are not a huge issue since LGHL is max 3 games a week, but that could be voted by the players.

Stability of teams (management) was an issue as well as trolls and what not, I think we need to work on building the community so it's closer together from team mates, to rivals ect ect.

Recruiting more players to the site, even if its just telling a friend would help benefit.

As is some teams are using ANYONE on their roster that is on at the time for games, so helping teams that need to get it going would help benefit. Even if it's someone in management on a different team that just pops over and asks if one of the lower teams needs help.

First, statistics such as attempted interceptions, clearances, and blocked shots aren't really even monitored by FIFA's in-game stat tracking.....so while this would be ideal information to have, it's not really possible. That being said, tackles attempted/completed and passes attempted/completed could be better tracked by the league's owners/managers for sure.

With regards to the "Stars of the Night"....obviously this is flawed. The quick fix is to just assign a staff member to review stat lines for a night and have them come up with the stars of the night. Stuff like "Team of the Week" should also be included and really seems like an obvious inclusion when you consider every other league has this. Same principle as mentioned before, have a staff member review lines and decide upon it. If it's too much time for them, why are they staff in the first place?

Media output definitely needs to improve for the league. If possible, the league should be recording/broadcasting all games...or at the very least, compiling highlights of all goals scored, etc. Goals of the week/season should be added. Basic stuff here. The Xbox One gives us all the tools we need to make this happen.

I suppose switching to EPL/Bundesliga would maybe increase interest...but ultimately, it's a simulation league and teams used are essentially irrelevant (esp. when there's only one league). Maybe once more teams get in and the league can expand to include additional leagues, or make the move to euro teams to include a Champion's League, etc.

Has the league considered dropping the "LGFA (insert team name here)" and just allowing people to register their own clubs? I know my club would be interested in joining, but don't necessarily care to play with randoms. Maybe a switch to a club approach, rather than sim-only, would increase teams? At least a club-based tournament.

I know I may be in the minority, but I'm actually not a huge fan of 11s. Maybe dropping the mandate to play with 11 would attract more teams. Maybe...let's say 6. Or 4. Or 2s. Does it really matter? 11s should (in theory) dump truck a 2-6 man team every time anyway. Combine this "expansion" (if you will) with introducing clubs, and you could see big growth.

- Side note on that previous point. My lack of enthusiasm towards 11s comes from the just generic feel of games/leagues that are 11s. All of the 11 leagues, LGFA included (no offense intended), feel a bit "cookie cutter" to me. They're all the same, there's no real variance in style of play or anything from league to league or team to team.....it's always a bit hectic and usually comes down to an odd bounce or getting "FIFA'd" in the wrong moment. Sure, having better players/chemistry helps. I would just personally like the capability to play more than just the standard 11 style of play. Maybe I like the additional space to operate that playing 4s or 5s offers. Maybe you and your buddy have off-the-charts chemistry and like to play 2s, are much more effective at twos. What it really boils down to is....for me, anyway....I think LGFA is attempting to just offer a better version of an existing product - there are tons of 11s leagues - rather than offering something different, more original, or something that could appeal to a broader audience. Again....I'm not saying a mandate of less than 11. Just the capability to do so if desired. Offer some variety to teams....in all honesty, squads with 11 are still going to destroy smaller teams, its just how the game is designed. But at least allow more freedom to teams. I know as a former owner of an 11s league team, that playing with a bunch of randoms, let alone organizing them, or constantly having to message and negotiate essentially with a bunch of folks you don't really know, can be a bit difficult. Allow some variety in managerial/ownership approach....allow teams to form more close-knit squads. Doing so would remove the need to make it a "club" league, but still allow teams some individuality. Idk. Just my opinion on the matter....there's not a true league in the world right now that offers this sort of flexibility for clubs/owners/managers/teams. LGFA could set a trend there, and in the process, open itself up for more teams, players, etc. Mostly, I would just like a league to bring my boys in and play our style in a competitive setting. Rant over....

Either more teams need to be added, or something needs to happen to ensure all these extra (TC) players get more PT and don't get bogged down sitting around for weeks/months and lose interest. Maybe pick up games held during regular league game times? Maybe have 1-2 "introductory" squads managed by staff members that compete in the league and are entirely made up of TC players. Anything to improve available opportunities for these guys/girls, some of which are more talented than people actually on the rosters.

There's a number of points made here and I'm glad to hear you say them. Most of these from what I'm hearing are saying the same things I have been saying to the Owners and Managers during selection....with some variation(s).

Agreed on basics: Stats, Media, Keeping TC active.
Pending - for the right time: Switching or Expanding to other leagues.
Disagreed: Dropping the team requirements (min 8), dropping "LGFA" (reminder - these are just my personal opinions)

Other details:

- flexibility, built in chemistry, allowing a team/club to come in etc. These are things I think we agree on in different ways if that makes sense. Season 4 is the 1st season we allowed continuity between seasons of some sort. I think we need more of it....more chemistry, more 'defining and characterizing' our teams, both in game style as well as personality. When I joined LGHL - I was in awe and really taken to the "personalities" the teams presented and what type of person they were looking for in terms of personality....along with skills. Really made it more enjoyable being with a group of guys that could get along with.

Regarding being 'hectic' and other leagues offering the same thing....I think that comparison can only be made because of the stage we are at...and the hurdles we have had. But I do see us having successfully taken (*knock on wood*) a Season 4 and our product to the next level. We have the next set of components in place for a more desirable league. THIS season was the season with the most issues with tools or how staff (raise my hand to admit my errors) did not set things up properly....but did the best we could with the time we had. Considering we are now here in the middle of the season and I believe we have a STRONG GROUP OF OWNERS AND MANAGERS....(STAFF we're still working into place - and yes...I know that's very backwards)....to keep things going in the right direction.

More teams / club format etc....
There's 2 sets of 'concepts' that I am envisioning...but unsure about the timing....so many variables at this point...(and of course I am open to modifications of the concepts and new ideas)....

1 - a 2nd level of league or a separate league that IS club based...primarily for TC. TC want to prove what they can do and want to move up to the top tier - the best opportunity they will have to do so is with their buddies. However I do believe the focus should still be on the top tier being simulation, roster based etc. This would give opportunity for both types of games/clubs...keep players not on main roster active etc. However, again we're looking at much development needed by our site admin.

2 - we don't play the 2nd half of the week. There is time and space to do something there. I have been investigating and inquiring about possible opportunities to work together with other leagues to do something with that time/space....but I do not believe (at least not at this point) there is interest from other leagues to move from what they have going....yet. Regardless....(not that everyone will be required to play the whole week...that's crazy....but we can expand along the week with any number of creative options during the 2nd half of the week).


...as far as keeping TC active...there's still the concept of TC vs Management games. There's just been tooo many management issues to think about getting this going (New York Red Bulls and Sporting KC primarily). I'm really hoping those problems are solved now though...but it's still possible.

.....so like I said.....keep your suggestions coming.

As for the question previously asked in another post about how long will it take to do stuff? The big stiff...may take at least 1 more season or possibly 2 (that's my educated guess...and that may be being optimistic)....but for the more immediate things that would have avoided the MAJORITY of issues we have had this season....I would expect to have those resolved by next season...or even during this season. Depends on exactly what Tris10 will be focusing on when he comes back. (those things that were my mistakes can be fixed rather quickly once he's back...eg. Open Cup Schedules and stats etc).

No, I agree, I think the league is taking several steps in the right direction. I think expansion is on the horizon, and think there are already several very capable people within the community that could step up to ownership/managerial positions. I'm not opposed at all to keeping the "LGFA Chelsea" or "LGFA Philly" names, since I think it generates interest in the site, just think that allowing teams a little more flexibility to create a culture/identity/style of play that can be associated with that name should be a focus.

With the comparison to LGHL.....of course they're going to have more personality and team identity. Teams are able to recruit for their style of play and the personality of the club. It's harder to do so within LGFA for a few different reasons: (1) too many mouths to feed (11 players vs 6 on ice), (2) people forced to play out of position due to required amount of players being so high, and (3) the forced addition of players outside a "style", "personality", or "identity" simply because teams need to fill the roster requirements and be able to meet the demands of having 8-11 players each game. I think even dropping the "required at gametime" number down to even 6-ish could allow for (1) more personality/identity/style/expression, (2) more exciting, open gameplay with more space, etc., and (3) the ability to expand at an accelerated rate due to lower roster demands. Again....teams that regularly play with 6 would likely be at a huge disadvantage against teams with 10-11 players, so the incentive to field a full roster is still there. But possibly just a lower, even to 6, required at gametime number would allow for this.....in addition to possibly a lower "required" roster size. Roster size.....if a manager is a good manager and has recruited well, scouted well....he or she will know the core group of people that they're going to roll with most nights. They've found dependable people, reliable people, who can be there on most nights and don't need 18 people. I certainly see the appeal of having so many on the roster....just in case additional players are needed....but if expansion and "team identity building" are the goal, I think certain concessions might have to be made at some point. At least on a minor level.

- Side note....lowering the required roster number also allows the capability for bringing in more clubs, since they wouldn't have to search for as many players to fill their team.

With regards to things being "hectic", I think you misunderstood. I meant the gameplay of 11s, not anything site-related. Just feels cluttered, sloppy, "guesswork" at times to me, that's all I was saying.

I think if the league can build upon it's existing managers and bring in additional dedicated people, the league could expand quickly and successfully. I've actually already spoken with a couple of the Owners and site upper-management about possibly owning/running a team next season, so I'm clearly on board. Little things like site media, news (on-site), team of the week, etc......that stuff goes a long way towards getting the League noticed and expanded. YouTube channel needs to happen, FB page (if there isn't already one) and Twitter for LGFA should be there too. Those things frequently updated will help get the word out, as will posting everything news/media related in the forums here as well. I've noticed the forums are kinda dead compared to other sites I've been to, so this could certainly help.

With the playing the whole week idea.....that's cool and all, just keep in mind some (most) of us have lives to live, or other games to play. We're already dropping a minimum of an hour, sometimes up to 2-3 with practice/game delays, a day during prime gaming hours from Sunday-Wednesday (during cups). Anything beyond that might be overkill, and might interfere with people's actual lives and priorities.

Again, anything I'm saying on here is purely my opinion and not intended to offend or antagonize anybody. I think a solid framework is in place at LG....but think that the LGFA feels a little too "common" or "generic" sometimes. I think aspiring to be more, or different, than other already-existing leagues should be a focus.....not just a better version of what they offer.

This can't be possible when the stats system doesn't work. The stats for each game are in their but when I go to look at the stats of the players, it shows they have not played all their games especially for me. I have made every game and put myself in each of those games and it still says I have played less games than others.

 

there's nothing negative being said in any of the posts (and I'm not looking for negativity)...it's all good feedback and just how the posts are worded (or frame of mind when reading it) sometimes conveys a different statement/message. Keep em coming. Will reply in more detail later.
