S18 AHL All-Star Information

Hey guys, I'll pump out a little more information on this as soon as possible. With Ghost's departure a lof of this fell on my lap.

Alright, some more information:

* With Dr Dee going to the NHL, he has been removed as a captain, BIG RIG will be taking his place. Any player that was called up to the NHL has been removed from my list (but not in this thread yet). Any player that quits the league, or is sent down to the CHL will not be eligible. GMs will not get the option to nominate someone else in their place.

* Draft will be tonight at 11pm EST. I'm still working with the media team to see if we can get this covered as well as possible.

Once the captains are in place, the idea is to work with @F5 Penguin on coming up with a way to do this as a live format. See if we can get all of the captains/alternates on at the same time. One thing that Ghost and I wanted to avoid was having an all star game consist of only players from the best 4-5 teams. I also don't enjoy the participation trophy method of "everyone gets a player yay". So here's my draft idea:

We go by divisions, there are six in the AHL:
Eastern Atlantic
Eastern Northeast
Eastern East
Western North
Western Midwest
Western West

Each "Round" of the draft is a different division. The division order will be randomized (F5 Penguin suggested doing the random drawing live).

Team A will pick one player from that division, then Team B will pick one player from that division.
Then we'd move on to the next round, next division in a snake format.
Team B will pick one player from that division, then Team A will pick one player from that division.
.....
We would go through each division twice until each team has 12 players total. We would then have three rounds for picking alternates. This would be a free-for-all with no limitations other than this one rule:

No team may have more than two players from the same AHL team (captains count)

 

I think it's a great idea. The only thing I can think of that may cause some problems is having all the positions available throughout the draft. IE, no one picks a Dman until the final round, oh btw there's only 3 dman total nominated in the Western West. With who i think the captains are I don't think this will be an issue, just though it was worth mentioning. Good job so far buddy, appreciate you taking the lead on this.

 

Yeah, it will take some smart picking on behalf of the teams'. A lot of teams in the West didn't nominate defensemen, should be fun though. I've confirmed with F5 that him and ERICE (and possibly [MENTION=7096]Sevv09[/MENTION]) will be running a special broadcast of the All Star game selections tonight at 11pm EST. I'll be working with [MENTION=4]Tris10[/MENTION] to ensure an award is added to everyone's profile who makes the All-Star team.

I have a question @ImJeff .

If a person was nominated by a team then gets traded to another team what division is he considered in?

An example of this is ECG Monster. He was nominated from Rockford but got traded to Providence. So is he in the Western Midwest (his original team) or the Eastern Atlantic (his current team).

 

He will be on your team and be eligible when your division is being drafted.

Alright, so here are some of the rules for the draft that the captains will have to abide by:

* Once a team picks a player, the other team is not allowed to pick another player from that LG team in that same round. (i.e. PahkTheCah picks PhillyJames, BIG RIG cannot pick a Lake Erie player in that round, but can in later rounds)
* Not allowed to have more than two players from the same current team (i.e. shaker will only be able to have one other Albany player on his team)
* Draft will be 13 rounds. Each division will get a go-through twice, the last round you can pick from any division. The captains will decide who is a starter and who is a reserve tomorrow, the round you are drafted in does not determine this.
* Position lock: Players nominated at LW can only play LW, LD at LD, etc.

Dmitch420 was traded from Charlotte to Adirondack.
