Today, Take two announced two interesting things,
First they named who their cover Athlete is for NHL 2k9 which is probably Canada's best player in Rick Nash.

Secondly they announced that NHL 2k9 is being developed by a new studio. NHL 2k was done previously but the "Kush Studio" (or 2kLA) and now belongs to the Visual Concepts Studio (and the studio i work for). Now why this is kinda interesting is because the VC studio is 2ksports strongest studio and was in charge or 2ksports 2 great divisions in NBA 2k and NFL 2k.

So the NHL 2k series is coming back and coming back stronger this year. Below is 2k's official press release

Does this mean the old game engine is scraped? Are we going to see a version that is lacking features?

Yeah Nash will probably get a bit of a boost but the rest of the team will still suck :(

Oh, that is so sweet. I heard a rumour that when Kush left, they took the rights to the engine, everything in the game, and all developers. I was worried it was going to be a complete rewrite. Now, if only EA would **** off and drop this takeover bull****.

"building a brand new experience from the ground up with the ultimate goal of creating an addictively fun sport simulation of the NHL that will be available this fall."

it almost sounds like they are rebuilding it... but i guess tris would be the one who would know

Nice to see Nash get some love. And even better to see that Kush is gone. As long as they fix the controls and skating I think 2k9 could be a great game.

I've never been able to get into the 2k series vs the EA version. This re-engineering sounds promising.

No, but this is probably the wrong thread to ask about EA and who their cover player is.

I'm willing to give 2K9 a shot this year if it has full skill stick controls and classic overhead zone coverage camera. Nice to hear a new engine will be used for 2K9 as the older one just wasn't up to par with todays standards. Be nice if I can customize my camera in the demo too :)

I might be interested in giving 2K anothershot as well.. I played NHL 2k6 I believe, I liked it, but the EA sports versions of hockey have always seemd better to me.

I did not purchase 2K8, but have all of the other games in the series.

I will be picking up 2K9, not because of this announcement, but because of 2K's biggest offseason acquisition...Tris10.

Wow, big news, I've always bought both hockey games as soon as they came out, because I'm such a big hockey fan. I feel as 2K sports latest games are adding too many confusing controls. I would like the skill skick and for them to continue the great presentation that they have shown in the last game. Can't wait!

I'll give you a more recent one, this one from Fortune/CNN: http://techland.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/05/19/take-two-in-possible-talks-with-electronic-arts/

I'm not too concerned about it either way, not my job on the line when Take Two does sell out. In my experience with mergers, the newest hires are usually the last ones to know and the first ones to go.
