Fun fact: Last seasons rankings, 14 of the 16 playoff teams were in the top 16. With the other two MTL and Arizona falling just outside of it. The only predicted bottom feeder from the system that completely went against it was Columbus, who was ranked the 29th worst team, and should’ve been the last playoff team in the east.

Just some food for thought, naturally teams can change drastically from the beginning of a season but I thought it was cool how the rankings itself wasn’t actually too far off in terms of accuracy.

My uneducated guess as to why S25 was the least accurate is because it is a new game and some people don't adjust to the new game as quickly as others. But someone with better knowledge of S25 might know why some of those teams fell out. People get banned? quit? I'm not sure.

 

Wow as a team, Chicago is 0.63 units better than the worst team , Anaheim. I did not know that!!!!!

This is the biggest POS I have ever seen. To make it comprehensible, you should multiply by 20 to give a 'team rating instead.' Like in versus or hut

Good post scheckel. This model does look pretty accurate overall. I would agree the fluctuations in S25 definitely had to do with the change to a new game, we'll probably see some of that this season as well.

It's also interesting how underrated the S25 and S26 Sharks were (or we overperformed?). S25 the model had us rated 26th overall, we lost in game 7 of the WCF to the eventual champion. Then S26 the model had us rated 14th, and we won the cup. Pretty odd considering S25 WPG and S27 PIT were both rated pretty highly.

 

That and Ottawa was only top 16 because our goalie ranking was insanely high because one of our goalies hadn't played a single game in LG, so that made his goalie stats seem elite lol
