Sign ups don't end until the playoffs begin. So yes you can sign up and be assigned basically from now until Jan 3. Since you've played before you will be a randomly assigned Veteran player which restrictions you from being a full time call up in the NHL. You are eligible for the AHL, as long as the team who you are assigned to is not yet at their limit.
