Over the last while there has been a lot of migration to third party apps specifically for the purpose of chatting. Once feature I think most of the community wants is an instant message feature. Obviously PM works for issues that do not need to be address right this second. But an instant message can be extremely beneficial in some situations.

GroupMe and Discord both offer website APIs. I don't have any details about what support the API offers. My hope is to move thee leagues to ONE chat system. That will save staff and I being torn between Skype, GroupMe, Discord, Facebook, while maintain the day to day operations here on our own website. I'd like to see us commit to one or the other. Then over time if we see a huge movement whereby the majority are using the official chat system, we could explore API options. I'd love to see a system where you HAVE TO link your discord account to LG. That then gives us the ability to push LG alerts to discord. That will broaden our reach especially during the off-season when we have important dates to get out, or we want our members to be aware sign ups are open. It could even be used for stuff like Friday alerts for FNP.

Right now from my perspective the PSN community is HEAVY Discord, while our Xbox community is still using GroupMe.

The purpose of this vote is to see what the majority want to use for our next season. Personally I am using GroupMe mainly and from what I've seen, Discord is much better.

If you have any comments please post them here. If not at LEAST vote. It is important for as much of the community to post their two cents on what platform they would prefer to use for chatting.

This poll and post also isn't about spying on you, or getting information etc. Realistically your GroupMe or Discord chats are public and can be screenshot quickly. There is no need or desire from us here on LG to invade your conversations, or spy on you, etc. The goalie is to unify the communities and come to some agreement that we have only ONE official third party chat system outside of LG, and our PM system.

Discord by far beats out every third party you mentioned above (skype, groupme, etc.). You can create any channel you want on there and have it all in one spot. Discord is available on PC, mobile, tablet, etc. You can create different roles in the channels (for example in your team channel, create a management role and all you have to do is @managment and it notifies whoever is under your management role. Very beneficial if you need an ECU or last minute problem with your game). Super easy and I would vote 1000x for Discord if I could.

I fought Discord for a long time, but since we started using it, the Server option and use of the app have been a welcome surprise.

Discord is far superior. Slack is the business enterprise equivalent. GroupMe is nothing more than a glorified AOL Instant Messenger.

Discord is way more versatile. Isn't groupme only text based? Discord is a much better version of teamspeak, with a chatroom.

Originally voted for GroupMe. After reading the post and downloading it myself. I have to say Discord gets the vote. Just based on its utility alone, more customizable, and I'm guessing the API will be more favorable with Discord as well.

If Discord wins, I'm not gonna be involved in any team chats. Just saying. Shit is awful.

All I need in a team chat is text. I don't need voice and all the other stuff blowing up my phone all day on pointless BS. Tell me when you need me or if you made lineup changes. That's it. Plus, it looks like shit and it's way more confusing to read than GroupMe. It looks like Twitter and Twitter is shit. GroupMe is more clean and easy to read.

There is much better mute options for Discord and I'm pretty sure majority of the people wouldn't even use the voice channels on Discord. We created a channel that had a bot that would let the chat know when someone from our team was streaming. Everyone muted the channel but you could go on and see when a teammate was streaming. It was pretty convenient. GroupMe is extremely limited.

The fine-grained notification settings in Discord are fantastic, and it can be organized so well.
