This thread is created with the intention of 'teaching' those who are interested in management whatever is needed to ensure they know what is needed to be a good GM / AGM, or Owner. One of the major issues in this league (in most leagues) is not having enough and/or skilled Owners and Management for the teams. Even when there are enough for the desired size, real life events happen and people have to step down. Other times, there are other reasons for stepping down. To ensure stability (A MAJOR GOAL FOR THE LEAGUE) it is always good to have backup members who are willing to step in as GMs, AGMs, Owners and even Staff. To be able to plan for growth, we have to know that we have enough management to run the teams adequately. We have to be able to trust that they will run the team regardless of its performance from beginning to end of the season...and preferably for multiple seasons. We also have to trust they will follow the rules, and voice their opinion/represent their team's interests when voting on rule changes and other league matters. With the current numbers - IF everyone was active - we potentially could expand another 2 teams. The ultimate goal for next season is 20 teams. That's a need for 8 teams consisting of 8 Owners, 24 GM's/AGM's, 104 players, and 32 TC players. That's a huge jump and alot of word of mouth from everyone and possible other advertising.......but.......EVEN IF WE HAVE THE NUMBERS, THERE'S NO STABILITY OR GROWTH WITHOUT ADEQUATE OWNERS AND MANAGEMENT. I honestly think this is a good idea, but doesn't have to be all that..difficult. Guides can be written up and read, which would probably help people more than like, some mentor system. I do think that the goals of the program would be off, however, from what was listed above. Ensuring how to use the site tools is important, as well as the various ins and out of the site, but that can be done with a forum posted guide, not a teaching thing. You could even have just an "Orientation for New Managers" thread that specifically has all these things, and links for where to find other things. You want to have as many things in one place as possible. Constitution. I've totally read it. Totally. Like I read the terms and agreements for Itunes before I hit accept. Really the constitution should consist of "How do things work here" and "What do we expect". While there are a lot of people in this league that don't play other Fifa Leagues, all the leagues roughly hold the same rules and such. How many players minimum you have to have, How many minutes you can quit out in, how many times you can restart the match for lag, Things like that. Really the constitution should be there more for a rulebook than everything, that you can refer back to when you're curious about something. Knowing it inside and out is way too much to expect of anyone. I'll refer to one simple rule/process under Article I: League Structure 3.5.2 : Team Captain Elections The President and Vice President, with help from the Owners, will be in charge of organizing the Team Captain Elections. Once bidding is over, each Organization will have to nominate a few Players to run for Team Captain. They will need to post in their locker room that they are nominating themselves, why they are running, and acknowledge they understand the role. After at least 2 nominees get selected and campaigning is done, the teams will vote by a popular vote. After 48 hours the nominee with the most votes will be the Team Captain. Any ties will result in another 24 hours to be added and the current votes stand. If all players have voted and there still is a tie, The Owner will be the deciding vote. If anyone has actually done that, I will eat all of the hats. Exposure to the league/Team tactics. These you can't teach. Everyone has their own style and way of judging other players. You just have to have either experience or know what you're looking for. Personally, I hate 4-2-3-1. I prefer two striker formations, and avoid 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1. But one team in the league runs 4-2-4 which I would never have considered, but it's working for them so more power to them. If you're a new manager, you have an easier time in LGFA first time than anywhere else, as you can see players career history for stats. You can see generally who has done well, what positions they've played, etc, that gives new managers in LGFA a huge boost compared to a new manager in ACL. That, and you can bid on players instead of having to actually recruit and get people to sign. Confidence/Leadership. Again, you can't really teach this. Some people are leaders, some aren't. If you're willing to step up and try to be a manager, you're already in the general ballpark, but teaching people how to manage and handle other personalities would be an entire seminar, or a college course. This part is probably one of the bigger barriers for people becoming managers, is simply that you have to put up with the shit that comes with the job. All you can really do is be available to answer questions, or provide a "Here's what I do to handle this situation, or how I keep my players showing up" but you can't teach someone how to be a people person. I can guarantee though that finding someone that is reliable and consistant in showing up, has wonderful talent and skills, and isn't a diva that will get pissed at their teammates, is hard to do even for experienced managers. Finding the first two is easy compared to having to manage a...'strong personality'. Lookin' at you, Yorkowski. If the league is to grow and reach the 20 teams, which I very much hope it does, it will require being more and more lenient with new managers. Having someone step up and say "I want to be a manager" is a rather large first step, that should be welcomed, and the person should be taught if they're completely new instead of turned away. Let's just make sure we're teaching them the important things, instead of the finer intricacies of proper team captain election protocols.
fyi - the constitution is still in the process of being redeveloped. I had hoped to have this done by start of Season 3 when I became PA. However with consistency in dysfunctional staff (and reminder - I do know I was part of both staff teams S3 and current S4) limits the abilities of people in their roles to focus on the only things they 'should' have to be working on. ...in other words re: new constitution - there's been too much going on to focus on releasing the new constitution and getting management and staff support for it the way it needs to be whenever the constitution is modified...it shouldn't come from just 1 person, be that PA President, Commissioner, BOG, Owner/Manager or player. ......now......the reason I say all the above - is because "Team Captains" do not exist in the modern LG world...let alone LGFA. There are a great many things that are NOT up to date in the the constitution that is still posted. I could easily have changed the links and what's posted...but there's no sense in doing so without the new constitution being 100% in the state desired by staff (possibly primarily me)...for it to be released. Yes - no matter what changes are made - there will always be tweaking and proposed changes....but there should be a starting point that is good enough. Depending on what transpires the rest of the season I hope to put some focus back on that while other very much needed things need to be fixed or changed.
