That is ridiculous. They should offer some sort of upgrade program to existing users. Way to screw millions MS!
Why do you hold microsoft to a higher standard then other companies? Why dont we demand Dell upgrade us when i buy a computer and then a year later its obsolete? Why wont Samsung upgrade my TV for me when a year after i bought it the new ones are much better? The 360 has been out now for almost a year and a half. Technology changes fast, thats just the way it is.
That's crazy for a 120HDD, maybe 3 years ago that price would fly I dont use their download service for movies and tv so ill pass on this
It's the same with all companies...if they didn't do this type of stuff they'd never make money. Plus...if you don't like it you don't have to buy it.
I might a lot more if you got to "Keep" the content. I'm not really into renting movies. But I guess if I was this is a good way to do it, and in Hi-Def.
if they would allow people in canada to download and rent movies through xbox i would definatly do it, but they wont allow it so im bitter at ms lol
Yeah I know thats the way it is. My point is the 360 was a flawed system to begin with, as evidenced by the numerous breakdowns. Now they have a presumably better system with features that should have been included the first time around. Its different than computers. I can slap some more RAM or a new video card to bring a computer up to speed. I don't hold MS to any standard. No I don't like it and won't be buying it. Consoles are designed, or at least we're led to believe they are, to last for years. When you buy a computer for gaming you have an inherent understanding that something better will be out next month. When you buy a console, you can't upgrade it, you are stuck with it as-is unless you sell the whole thing. At least Sony tells you they're coming out with a smaller or more efficient system years after the original product launched. MS being so cryptic about this crap doesn't help anything. Its just a rip off to early adopters of the system, the people who drove early hardware and software sales.
there are pro's and con's to this and you can argue each point all day. My perspective on it is that I am happy to see MS trying to fix (and improve a previous model). I think its great that they are trying to stay current with technology. We could be complaining how MS doesnt care about their products and other issues like this... Anyway I may not get it right away but I think its great!!!
At least they aren't updated the hardware. Do you remember when the N64 had the RAM expansion. You could upgrade your 2megs of ram to 4 lol
Meh, I'll pass. I dont consider it an upgrade, unless it came with HD-DVD built in. $20 more you can spend on a PS3 that comes with built in BR. Then again if it did come with HD-DVD I would still probably pass considering its the losing format right now.
Do you have anything to back that claim up or is just more of your Sony man-love? Everything i have read shows they are at least equal and at worst HDVD has a slight edge. THis is from marketwatch.com: NPD Group, a market researcher, says it's a tossup in sales of the competing-format high definition DVD players, according to Video Business. Standalone Blu-Ray boxes grabbed 48% of the market between April and December while HD-DVD had 52%. Checking Amazon.com's best sellers, though, it looks like HD-DVD is now way out in front on the hardware side while Blu-Ray owners are pacing software sales. Ranking the Top 20 DVD players, two Toshiba HD-DVD models stand at 6 and 14, while the lone Blu-Ray player on the list is a Samsung model in 20th place.

It only matters to fanbois. Great you posted 5 links that all say the same exact thing, which I already stated above. Bluray is leading in software sales, HDDVD is leading in hardware sales.
It's a race that neither format will win. This current 'race' is all well and good , but within 5 years both formats will be gone and replaced with downloadable next gen HD and stored digitally on local HDD....
Yup i agree with you rob This is the last of the physical "media" However dont we still want to own a copy of the movies we buy? If you could somehow burn your movie to some type of disc then that would be great
as compression tecnologies advance , we will see players that can have a tonne of storage space and eliminate the need for pysical disks. I have a 2GIG thumbdrive that I carry stuff back and forth from home to work PC , same could be done for movies ( 80 GIG iPod is the size of my Razr Phone ) so basically download , watch , store or share all in one motion without actually leaving your couch and have the same quality ( if not better than current next gen HD )
