A thread for Goalies

Just a couple of things

1. I'd like to get opinions from different goalies around the league (all of LG not just AHL so anyone feel free to comment) about how they feel about the current state of goaltending on NHL and other things that could be done to make it better.

2. Also, this one is for site people like bogs I'm guessing would have the power to do this if anyone would, but the league leaders category on the main pages per league I think needs an update esp for goalies that only show people's stats who have a certain amount of games played maybe like a minimum of 10-15 just because as much as it may not really matter it would be nice for goalies to really see where they rank in comparison to others instead of someone ECU'ing one time and getting a high save percentage that no one who plays a meaningful amount of games would be able to reach.

If you stop by, thanks and hopefully we can maybe come up with some things that could be improved! (not that I have any control over that anyways but still)

 

all goalies will eventually get nipped by me, there is no hope!

I want to play against the best at all times, so if that's trying to scare me it's not going to work. The more goals per game the better makes me want to play better.

 

This is more just trying to see what issues anyone and everyone is having and getting a discussion started, I'll definitely check out that thread though but if the people who are looking at that thread aren't EA sports then idk what they'd do.

 

Also, I haven't played against him yet and if we do ever play whatever happens happens I have no problem playing against any player/line any day any time

I think it's pretty dumb that we are ranked merely by save percentage in that power ranking thing when we have all those advanced stats to put to good use. Also agree we shouldn't bloat the top ten with 1 game played ecu's.

As for the state of goaltending, I think it's great. They just have to clean up some of the animations and work on the goalie interference detection still. This game also rewards goalies more for positioning rather than reaction time, which I wish could be valued a bit more to further separate the good from great.

Thanks, yeah definitely an animation cleanup is needed, and also personally I miss when the post hug was a hold instead of a toggle it felt more natural that way and faster

 

Oh boy, yeah I don't understand why in the world they decided to completely screw up the post hug. Half the time I try I notice my guy just casually lean 6 away from the post as if it has cooties.

 

It wasn't so bad in the beta, it seemed like you didn't need to be on the post and could still make a short side save but now you need to be there and sometimes you just can't quite get to it

 

The animations are dumb. Goalie interfence is dumb. The side to side movement is slow. Post movement is slow. Basically the only good thing about goalie compared to old gen is the ability to save everything glove high just by standing in the middle. The only way to save a breakaway is to flying poke check because your goalie wont move fast enough.

 

Yeah good point on the breakaways I can't say how many times I've been in position with the right read on someone and my guy straight up just doesn't reach for it or try to make a save

 

You can set the minimum amount of games played from the top of the stats page. I usually set it to 20+.

Everything that's wrong with Goaltending in EA's NHL series can be summed up by just ONE screenshot:



It's just NOT possible that as a goalie, you can get 85-95% in POSITIONING (or higher) and end up with HALF or less than half of that percentage in SAVES. If a goalie's in position, he has to make the save, period. And that's just something we can't really do, because we can't control the save animations the game gives us most of the time, like that stupid KARATE CHOP blocker save animation or worse that shoulder shrug that doesn't cover the post when a forward shoots from the goal line. Right now playing goalie is NOT fun. Even if we play a nearly perfect game, there's always going to be some dumb deflection or some weird animation that allows a goal in, or players will ram into you and score without the ref taking it back for Goalie Interference.

That's not to say that there wasn't a lot of improvements made to our position. But the sad fact is that the forwards have always had the major advantage, and NOTHING was changed in that respect as they still have an unfair advantage over the goalies and the defense in this game.

 

Dude my point exactly I've said that about positioning to everyone so many times and also the line I agree most with is that it's just not fun to play goalie right now. In the beginning the reason I gravitated towards goalie is because it felt the most rewarding to do well in and now bay feeling is gone
