ESHL NHL 18 ROSTER BUY-IN DEADLINE: SEASON 1: Thursday October 12th – Thursday October 26th SEASON 1 PLAYOFFS: Sunday October 29th – Thursday November 16th SEASON 1 RELEGATIONS: Thursday November 30th – Sunday December 3rd e-Sports Hockey League on leaguegaming.com takes the top clubs from around North America and pits them against each other in a year long, multi-season competition to discover where the best clubs stack up and which players stand out as the highest skilled in the EASHL community. Teams buy-in their own rosters to compete against other highly skilled teams for a growing prize pool and bragging rights. As the league grows in size and popularity we hope to continue to increase the prizes through sponsorships and eventually completely eliminate the team buy-in. This year we’ve determined that the 3 most important goals for this league to thrive are: 1. Prioritze the league among the player base and LG community. 2. Increase the viewership of top-level games to hopefully increase sponsorship opportunity. 3. Limit forfeiting and encourage teams to stick it out together for a full year. We’ve settled on the following format and rules for NHL 18: 3 seasons leading to a grand finale tournament which will be based on prior performance in the 3 seasons. We will be using the European Style points system again this year: Regulation win: 3 pts OTW: 2 pts OTL: 1 pt Regulation L: 0 pt DIVISIONS This year we will be using a division format to separate teams and create more competitive games. Top tier teams will be separated from the mid tier teams, which will be separated from the newer less experience teams. The benefit of the tiered system is that you can have as many tiers as needed. The number of tiers depends on the number of teams and how well the skill of those teams can be determined and separated. There are inifinite possibilities for the number of tiers that can be used – if you need 4 or 5 you can have them. This year we feel there will be enough teams for 3 on Xbox and possibly 3 on Playstation. - Invite Division: Top 12 teams in the EASHL community. Determined by a vote of highly respected community members. If the 12 teams are unclear there will be a qualifier tournament to determine the final spots. Buy in: $25 x 8 = $200 Prizing: 1st Place = $1507.97 per season 2nd Place = $753.98 per season - Main Division (if applicable): The next 12 best teams, again determined by a vote and/or a qualification tournament. This division will only exist if there’s enough teams for 3 divisons (45ish total teams) Buy in: $25 x 8 = $200 Prizing: 1st Place = $924 per season 2nd Place = $554.40 per season - Open Division: The remaining teams not placed in the higher division(s) will participate in open. This division needs at least 15-20+ teams to survive and is targeted towards newer teams with less experience. Buy in: $25 x 8 = $120 Prizing: 1st Place: $443.52 per season DIVISION PROMOTION & RELEGATION At the end of each season the winner of the bottom division(s) will move up to the next division no matter what. So, if there are 3 divisions, the champion of open will automatically go to main, the champion of main will automatically go to Invite. The runner-up of the lower division will play against the bottom 2 teams of the higher division in a relegation tournament to see who stays/moves up in/to the higher division and to see who gets moved down or stays in the division. As an example: Runner up of Main will play 12th place of Invite in a best of 5 series. The winner will face 11th place of Invite (who received a BYE round 1) in the final in a best of 5 series to see who will be in Invite. GRAND FINALE TOURNAMENT At the conclusion of the playoffs, standings will be determined for that season. Every team in invite will receive a certain number of tournament points depending on what place they finish in. Teams in main will also earn a certain number of tournament points depending on what place they finish in. The top 16 teams with the most tournament points at the conclusion of the 3rd season will qualify for the Grand Finals. If there are only 2 divisions, the top 8 teams will qualify. Example: Invite – 1st – 26 TPts 2nd - 25 TPts 3rd – 24 TPts … 12th – 14 TPts Main – 1st – 13 Tpts 2nd – 12 Tpts 3rd – 11 Tpts … 12th – 1 TPt If only Invite and Open, teams the 12 teams in invite will earn TPts and the top 2 teams in open will earn TPts. Only 8 teams will qualify for the final tournament. GRAND FINAL PRIZE POT 1st place: 60% of prize pool = $2158.68 2nd place: 25% of prize pool = $899.45 3rd place: 10% of prize pool = $359.78 4th place: 5% of prize pool = $179.89 SCHEDULING A set schedule of 22 games to encourage viewership of streams and prioritization of the league by players. Teams will play 4 games each day. 2 games against each team in home/home format at the following designated times: Sundays @ 9:00/9:30 PM EST & 10:00/10:30 PM EST Thursdays @ 9:00/9:30 PM EST & 10:00/10:30 PM EST (Final week of regular season will have an 11:00 & 11:30 PM EST time slot. ROSTERS Rosters will consist of 8 players. You are allowed a 9th roster spot reserved for a 2ND goalie (they are locked into playing G). Your main goalie must also play the majority of their games at G. Teams will be allowed 2 roster replacements between each season. A team may use 1 of their replacements mid season, but are then only limited to 1 after the season. If a replacement is used mid season, the player must not be competing in the same division as the team using the replacement. That means an Invite team can take a player from Open, Main, or one who is not participating in the event, but not from the Invite division. Between seasons there are no restrictions on who can be used as a roster replacement. They can come from any team or any division. The only limitation is that once a player leaves 1 team, they are not allowed to re-join that team at any point during the year. Rosters will be LOCKED at the conclusion of the regular season of season 3 in order to prevent teams from stacking up for the grand finale. If a team disbands and reforms with more than 2 roster replacements from the prior season, they will be relegated back to the lowest division. PLAYOFFS The top 8 teams of the regular season will qualify for playoffs. They will compete ina best of 7 series each round until a champion is crowned. The champions will be awarded the allotted prize pot for that season. There will be no 3rd, 5th, or 7th place playoff series. The higher seed who loses will be awarded that spot for the tournament points. RELEGATIONS The winner of Main will move up to Invite. The winner of Open will move up to Main. The 11th place team of invite will receive a bye. The 12th place team of invite will play the 2nd place team of Main in a best of 5 series. The winner will play the 11th place team of team of invite in a best of 5 series. The winner will be in Invite the next season. The same format will apply to Main/Open if there are enough teams to have 3 divisions. BUY INS Each season: Invite – $25 x 8 = $200 (no extra fee for the 9th spot) + $50 FF Deposit Main - $20 x 8 = $160 + $50 FF Deposit Open - $15 x 8 = $120 + $50 FF Deposit No buy in for the Grand Finale. FORFEIT POLICY In order to hold teams accountable for forfeiting we will be requesting an additional $50 deposit from each team. You will be refunded in full if your team does not forfeit any games during that season. If your team forfeits 1 game: $10 will be added to the prize pot. If your team forfeits 2 games: Another $15 ($25 total) will be added to the prize pot. If your team forfeits 3 games: Another $25 ($50 total) will be added to the prize pot. Teams that forfeit too much throughout the season will be considered for demotion regardless of finishing spot or removal from the league. Teams must make an effort to have 6 players no later than 10 minutes after the designated time slot. Please inform team owners if your team will need these 10 minutes. In an effort to minimize forfeits, please contact a league admin, opposing team owner if you know you will not have 6 players days in advance. A solution will be worked out. STREAMING The HOME TEAM is required to ensure EACH GAME IS STREAMED! If the home team CANNOT stream, but the away team can, that will be deemed acceptable. Please contact a league admin if this is not possible, however it is possible to stream directly from your console and should not be an issue. The reason this rule is in place is so that we can have at least 1 stream to work with in order to promote games. If there is an issue within a game that requires review this will also be used as proof. Please archive your streams. BANNED PLAYER POLICY Players banned in LGHL are eligible to play in ESHL, however they will be required to pay a fee to do so. $35 buyout will cover your full league ban from LGHL and ESHL. $25 buyout will buy out your strike meaning you can play ESHL, but not LGHL. Site banned players are not eligible for participation. Any player site banned mid season will be eligible for the rest of that season, however the following season or event they must be replaced. This policy will come into affect start with S28 of the Xbox LGHL and S6 of the PSN LGHL. Any players ban in those seasons and moving forward this policy applies to them. The 23% is still way too high. Need to use a site like Leaguesafe or something else to mitigate the cost.
I think you guys did a great job with this. It shows a lot of thought and feedback went into this. Job well done.
. Edit: Good looking out on the part of LG/Brodie for getting us our copies from the tourney! Much appreciated.
Weird, I heard Composure is still waiting for their watches and here we are promising more money and prizes.
The structure looks good. Personally, I don't think you can run a competitive Esports league running on two systems. Should have been limited to Xbox in my opinion. The streaming rules are necessary, and a good choice. It will be interesting over the next few weeks to see how much interest this garners from the top teams. No top teams, or only a few top teams, will cause people to lose interest immediately. So I encourage all of you too guys, to take part in this. Hopefully it runs smoothly. I'm here if I can help anything. Good job so far @LG McDonald
So a good team that is new to LG gets placed into the open division. what do they have to do to get into the year end tournament? Given that the 16th place team, aka 4th team in main gets 10 TPTS per season. Id think that the 16th team overall after 3 seasons ends up with roughly 30 TPTS. -Finish 1-2 in season 1 of open. (win relegation if 2nd) - 0 TPTS -Finish 1-2 in season 2 of Main. (win relegation if 2nd) - 12 or 13 TPTS -Finish top 10 in Invite - 17+ TPTS I feel like there should be some TPTS awarded for moving up from open to main, so that a legitimate contender that got stuck in Open to start isn't too severely handicapped from being new to LG.
so... is this how every season is going to be now? pay to play? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea.. putting in money ensures guys will show up to play when they're supposed to because they've invested money and there's potential for an actual reward instead of just digital trophy.
9% haircut for LG is fine, but 14% for PayPal fees seems excessive. There's gotta be a better way to pay/payout
