2460 regular season games, and 81 playoff games later, we are now ready for our Stanley Cup Finals. Representing the East, the New Jersey Devils. Representing the West, the Calgary Flames. Both teams finished the season in 2nd in their respective divisions with Calgary finishing with 104 points, and NJD finishing with 101.

    Head 2 Head Regular Season

    02/27/17 : :team29: 0 ll 12 :team7:
    03/28/17 : :team7: 6 ll 1 :team29:

    How They Got Here

    Calgary Flames

The Flames opened up their post-season against the lovable Arizona Coyotes. CGY set the stage right away in Game 1 with a 13-3 win with @frostx17 and @jay6219 going off, each tallying 10 points. Arizona bounced back in Game 2, but CGY ran away with it, winning 3 straight to clinch the series winning 4 games to 1. Calgary held Arizona to just 3 goals in the final 3 games. @patdene12 collected 2 shutouts in the series and went 3-0.

After their convincing first round victory, Calgary didn't cool down one bit, taking out the Minnesota Wild in 4 games. Minny was coming off an impressive series win over a strong LA team who quickly became a threat to contend. @patdene12 collected yet another shutout in the series. @frostx17 led the offense, recording 7 points in the series.

Onto the series that a lot were considering the "true" finals between the Flames and powerhouse Hawks. Calgary opened the series taking away home ice with a very close 3-2 win. This game would be the only one that was won by a road team. After CHI tied the series, CGY went onto win the next 2, including a 2-0 win in Game 3 where @zBernatchez recorded his 1st shutout of the post-season. Chicago forced a Game 6 where many thought they would win, and eventually win the series. Up 3-0 in the 2nd period, Chicago looked like they had the game in the bag, but the Flames ignited for 4 unanswered goals to cap the series off in dramatic fashion.

    New Jersey Devils

The Devils began their cup run against the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2v3 match in the metro. After going up 2-0, NJD would drop the next 2 games in shamble-type fashion, being outscored 14-2. Shaking off the 2 blowouts, NJD took Game 5 in a rout of their own and forced Philadelphia into winning Game 6 to stay alive. NJD went onto take Game 7 with a 2-1 win. @Odieeeeee and @Novak4Prez both scored and tallied an apple in the series clincher.

Following their 7-Game series win, the Devils took on the best team advancing in Washington due to the divisional match ups. (Should really re-seed but following NHL rules, blah blah). What was expected to be a long series, turned out to be nothing but a detour for the Devils, as they took this one in 5 games. @ryno1354 recorded a shutout in Game 3, which would be followed by 2 more NJD wins. Setting the 4th game aside, the Caps and Devils were tied in scoring with 11 goals each. The difference was NJD winning all 3 of the 1-goal games.

After making quick work of the toughest possible opponent, the Devils had a date with the Buffalo Sabres. After splitting the first 4 games, the Devils locked things up defensively with 2 back to back shutout victories from @ryno1354 to clinch the series. Taking away the 10-1 Game 2 win for BUF, the Devils outscored the Sabres 16-12. Only 2 of the games were decided by 1 goal, both NJD wins. As the Sabres GM, gotta tip your cap to Ryno and the Devils for shutting it down in Games 5 and 6.

    3-Star Performers

    Calgary Flames

    3rd Star: @mattperrault

Calgary has a tremendous defensive core, and there are a few of them who could be in this spot as well, but none stand out like @mattperrault to me. Entering the finals with a 4-0-1 record, Matt has recorded 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists), carries a +16, has just 2 minutes in penalties, and only has more takeaways than giveaways (18 GA, 23 TA).

    2nd Star: @patdene12
With a team loaded with french-presence, @patdene12 is definitely at the top of the list. Coming into the Finals, Pat is 8-0-1, 3 shutouts, has only allowed 14 goals, good for a 1.53 G.AA and has a very dominate 86.3 S%. Nothing like an elite goalie to go along with an elite d-core. NJD is in for a tough series. Oh yeah, and they have to go through @zBernatchez when Pat isn't playing. Good luck.

1st Star: The Duo of @frostx17 and @jay6219
#1 and #2 in point totals, Frost and Jay have been lights out thus far. With 6-0-0 records respectively, 23 points respectively, and a +22 respectively, their isn't a hotter duo. Add @BigJayAyotte to that Game 7 forward core and it is a recipe for goals, lots and lots of goals.

    New Jersey Devils

    3rd Star: @jdheagle-

Yeah, New Jersey won that deal. JD can't lose. 7-0-0, 16 points, and 40 hits, he is truly dominating right now. From an individual standpoint, he has arguably been the best forward in the playoffs thus far. Putting him and @Tendy against Frost and Jay is going to be very interesting.

    2nd Star: @ryno1354
Currently holding the best G.AA at 1.45 and tied with @patdene12 with 3 shutouts, Ryno has been huge for the Devils this post-season. 9-1-0 with a S% of nearly 83, he has performed when its mattered the most. He has made a statement that he should be included among the best in the league. In 100+ more minutes played, he has only allowed 3 more goals than Pat. This goalie match-up is one for the ages.

    1st Star: @Odieeeeee
The best defenseman in the playoffs is looking to cap off a stellar run as owner of the New Jersey Devils. Leading all dmen in points with 14, Odie is a threat to strike at any given point. Not many can beat him 1 on 1, as the Island continues to grow in population. Left Wingers beware.
