Why not have some form of expansion draft? LG tries to model the real NHL/AHL/CHL to some degree. It reflects what's really happening in the NHL, and it could be a novel, fun event to kick off S28.

Let teams protect a certain number of players, (and/or require them to expose at least one player under contract for S28, drafted or otherwise), and let Vegas have its draft. Maybe give Vegas some extra untradeable resigns too. Make an event of it.

As a fellow TLDR poster I'm hoping you read the other stuff in there. As far as an expansion draft it's too different from real life to mimic.

1.) We have a different roster size

2.) We can only issue a certain number of contract years

3.) We would only be able to protect guys under contract I'm assuming, which means they'd take guys under contract or guys not under and have to resign them and they could just not resign

4.) There's 31 teams, Vegas would only need to fill 14 roster spots if they have an (Owner GM AGM) so some teams lose their players but others dont

5.) With the removal of trading resigns being implemented certain teams are at a huge disadvantage and certain teams are at a huge advantage. We're punishing the good teams for building a certain away bc it's "unfair" and we need more balanced which I agree with to an extent but then were putting them at a disadvantage and those other teams now at an advantage. On top of that were going to add a new team who can take their guys they actually have under contract and there's nothing they can do about it.

6.) The league will have new owners/mgmt I imagine from this past season to next, those new teams would lose players on their roster thus putting them behind even further

I do want them to add Vegas so we continue to be a sim league and mimic the NHL as much as possible. I personally don't want a reset, but do not see how we cannot implement one with a new team being added, a main strategy good teastrategy used to build their teams being removed (trading for resigns), a main strategy new owners have used to acquire assets (trading the resigns) and a finally the debate of AGM being kept or removed split down the middle seemingly yet again

I'm reading most of everything, just haven't really commented on it yet.

I don't see a huge issue with how LG is structured today, except that resigned players should not be eligible to be traded for at least the first 3 weeks of the season in which they are resigned. (I'd also like to see a move towards affiliation, not ownership, of AHL teams - but that's a whole separate ball of pain.)

If LG keeps things mostly the same /and/ holds an expansion draft, that draft may help to improve league parity by siphoning some of the excess talent from some teams. Teams which feel disadvantaged today would get a little relief, real or imagined, while the mechanism through which it is delivered (an expansion draft) would be something the top teams could find to be realistic and not malicious.

More steals sneak through when everyone is in bidding. Which is bad b/c then those steals get traded to the proven successful teams (b/c of players being scummy to "lesser" owners or just b/c of bad trades made by them). So a reset doesn't create more parity. In fact, a reset just helps top-end mgmt groups restock their rosters with gems.

    ===

It looks like resigns will not be tradable and expiring contracts will not be tradable. What more can you reasonably ask for w/o completely taking away the ability for anyone to build and stabilize their org?

Good mgmt are good at bidding. So until a mgmt group proves it is competent by placing smart bids, it's frustrating to hear them complain about parity and the need for new rules to protect them.

The majority of current successful owners have been around a long time, worked very hard and put up with a lot of headaches to get where they are. If struggling mgmt spent more time on player evaluation and preparation/strategy for S28 bidding and less time thinking of ways to neuter the "established, dominant" organizations, they'd have brighter futures.

    Reset is dumb

Make draft picks more important like in real NHL

    - 2 year 500k contracts for drafted players or perhaps no cap hit for entry level deals

    - no resigns once entry level is up, player either goes into bidding or RFA (team can match highest bid to 'resign player)

    - if over a certain amount, team who signs RFA gives up 1 first round pick ( perhaps do it MLB style and have picks 1-15 protected and give up 2nd round plus others instead)

    Resigns

    - 1 season @50% increase eachtime
Or 1st resign is same cap then 100% for 2nd

    Trades

-allow players with one season left to have portion of cap retained by team for trade ( to prevent craziness limit it to just 50% and 1 per team)

This way a team who is rebuilding can bid 10M on that dman knowing they can create a bidding war mid season and get good offers to speed rebuild

Lastly somehow restrict who can be management or restrict movement. It's not good for the league to have a guy like GB just pick which team he wants to be on every season.

No AGM. The list of AGMs every season >>>>> top FA and draft eligible players

Anything lou says do the opposite and league will do fine

Do an expansion draft, have the Vegas Owner (me) only be able to draft from playoff teams so the rebuilding/bad teams dont get any good contracts poached. Change re-sign rules.

Also, resets are dumb, please stop them.

Expansion draft is a horrible idea. Especially if you give the team to a top owner or player. Then that owner will contact players to try to see if they can convince them to jump ship. Basically trying to have a player threaten their way into that team. Next thing you know. Vegas has 3 top players in management and 2 or more great players on cheap salary without even hitting draft, rfa, or free agency and now they are a favorite to win right away as a so called expansion team? Come on.

In response to point 3, what about introducing a resign price scale based on production?
So a resign for players between certain point brackets (or some other statistic if there's a better one) will be higher percentage than someone in a lower points bracket.

This way the producers on that team are fairly rewarded, and management has to pay fairly to retain that kind of production from whatever line that player happens to be, or they always have the option to walk say if a third liner produces at a second line point clip.
