    Brooklyn Americans 1941-42 Sweater

New York's original NHL franchise was eclipsed by the arrival of the Rangers in 1926. for their final season the Amerks tried to distinguish themselves with the name "Brooklyn" but still played all home games at Madison Square Garden. As legendary as the players who wore the originals this vintage hockey jersey is individually handcrafted and reproduced using the same materials and techniques as the originals including knit-in striping authentic tackle twill and embroidery and double elbow pads and number "2" on the back. The result is a historically accurate garment of extraordinary construction.

    The California Seals

The California Seals were part of the National Hockey League's ambitious 1967 expansion, which doubled the number of teams in the league (from six to twelve.) The "Seals" nickname came from San Francisco's Western Hockey League (W.H.L.) entry, the rights to which were purchased by expansion Seal's owner Barry Van Gerbig, a 28-year-old former Princeton Tiger netminder, and backup goalie on the 1960 U.S. Olympic team

    [n]New England Whalers 1972-73 Jersey[/b]

The Whalers, now known as the Carolina Hurricanes, joined the NHL as one of only four WHA clubs to survive that league's demise. The 1972-73 version features a cotton/poly blended jersey with embroidered tackle twill crest, and numbers on the back and sleeves

    Played As:
    California Seals 1967/68
    Oakland Seals1967/68-1969/70
    California Golden Seals 1970/71-1975/76
    Cleveland Barons 1976/77-1977/78
    Historical Moments:
1976/77: After 9 failed season in Northern California the Seals moved to Ohio hoping to snatch up the fan base left behind by the WHA's Crusaders who had just moved to Minnesota. The Barons would play in the Richfield Coliseum an hour drive away from Cleveland since the old Cleveland Arena was considered too small. However, the Richfield Coliseum which at the time was the largest building in the NHL at 18,544 seats would never even come close to being sold out, as the Barons only broke the 10,000 mark 7 times in 41 home games. The Barons would get off to a slow start settling to the bottom of the Adams Division early in the season. Midway through the season Owner Mel Swig announced the team might have trouble even finishing the season, as they had trouble meeting payroll. In February the Barons missed payroll twice, to keep the team running the NHL and NHLPA had to loan the team $1.3 million to rescue the Barons' sinking ship. The Barons would go on to finish in last place finish with a record of 25-42-13. Following the season the team would get a new lease on life when George Gund III purchased controlling interest in the club.

1977/78: Starting the season with virtually the same team the Barons pulled off their biggest win on November 23rd when they stunned the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in front of 12,859 boisterous fans at the Richfield Coliseum. However, the Barons would continue to slide down the standings prompting GM Harry Howell to make several trades to make the team tougher, as the Barons acquired Walt McKechnie, Chuck Arnason, J.P. Parise and Jean Potvin. The moves seemed to work at first as the Barons beat the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs all whom were top playoff contenders. After a few more victories, the Barons appeared headed for a playoff spot. Fan interest was also picking up; as 13,110 (a team record) showed up to watch the Barons come from behind to tie the Philadelphia Flyers 2-2. However, it would all fall apart as the Barons went on a 15-game winless streak that doomed the Barons to another last place finish with a 22-45-13 record. While the Barons were quickly fading the Gund family was losing money, and planes were being made to put the Barons out of their misery. On June 14th at the league meetings in Montreal, the Cleveland Barons were laid to rest, when it was announced that the Barons were merging with the Minnesota North Stars. The team would be owned by the Gunds, but would play as the Minnesota North Stars, as they secured a sweetheart lease deal for the Met Center in Bloomington, MN, something they could not obtain with the Richfield Coliseum

    Kansas City Scouts

    Historical Moments:
1974/75: The NHL completed its first 8-year expansion cycle by adding teams in Washington and Kansas City. Kansas City which had been a home to several minor league teams was getting its first crack at NHL level hockey. Initially they chose Mohawks as their nickname to reflect a Missouri-Kansas union, but the name was rejected by the Chicago Blackhawks. So, the team chose its 2nd choice Scouts, named after a famous statue overlooking the city. The arrival of the Scouts and Capitals led the Shinto creating 4 divisions, the Scouts would be placed in the Smythe Division. Taking the ice for the first time on October 9th the Scouts would be buried by the Maple Leafs in Toronto. While Kemper Arena was hosting the American Royal Rodeo and Livestock Show the Scouts were forced to play their first 9 games on the road losing 8 and tying 1. On November 2nd the finally made their home debut losing 4-3 to the Blackhawks. However the following day they would get their first win beating the Capitals in Washington 5-4. The highlight of the seasons would come on January 23rd when the Scouts stunned the Bruins 3-2 in Boston. However, the Scouts who were led in scoring by Captain Simon Nolet were a typical expansion team finishing in last place with a 15-54-11 record.

1975/76: Going into their 2nd season the Scouts hoped to challenge for a playoff spot. However, a a 16-game winless streak from December 28th to February 7th would end all hopes for a playoff run. Things would only get worse after their February 7th win over the Washington Capitals as the Scouts failed to win another game the rest of the season losing 21 and tying 6 to finish in last place with an awful 12-56-12, which included just 1 win in their final 44 games. Not surprisingly the Scouts struggled to draw fans forcing their 37 inventors who were almost a million dollars in debt to initiate a ticket drive. However, when the Scouts sold only 2,000 of their 8,000 season tickets sold goal they were forced to conclude that hockey would not work in Kansas City so the team was moved to Denver after just 2 seasons in Kansas City.

1976-2001: Following the departure of the Scouts Kansas City became a minor league hockey town again affiliating with a number of teams until the IHL folded in 2001, taking the Kansas City Blades with them. With Kansas City having financial troubles in other sports it is unlikely they will ever get another NHL franchise, and can only hope that another team will chose to put a minor league affiliate in their city.

    St. Louis Eagles 1934/35

    Played As:
    Ottawa Generals 1886/87-1901/02
    Ottawa Silver Seven 1902/03-1907/08*
    Ottawa Senators 1908/09-1930/31, 1932/33-1933/34

    Historical Moments:
1934/35: St. Louis had first applied for an NHL expansion franchise in 1932 but was rejected because it was to far from the other cities in the league and concerns arose over travel costs especially in the middle of the Great Depression. With the once mighty Ottawa Senators heading into bankruptcy the team was transferred to St. Louis during the summer of 1934. The NHL was still concerned by the travel cost, but did not want to lose another franchise after the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia franchise folded. Wearing patriotic red white and blue uniforms the team, which was, renamed Eagles played in front of solid crowds at the St. Louis Arena. However, it became apparent the team was doomed to failure as they finished dead last with an awful record of 11-31-6, as escalating travel cost wiped out what little money the team had left from Ottawa as long costly train rides from the American Midwest to the Canada and Boston destroyed any chances the team hd of survival, as they folded after just one season.

1935-1967: After the Eagles folded St. Louis attempted to lure the Montreal Maroons who went under in 1938. However, after the quick failure of the Eagles, due to travel costs the NHL was not about to give St. Louis another try. Eventually the NHL would be paired down to 6 teams, which lasted for 25 years until the NHL decided to add 6 teams in 1967 to double to 12 teams. St. Louis who had only been choked off due to travel cost in the great depression was a natural choice to land one of the new teams. The expansion team known as the Blues would even play in the same St. Louis Arena which was ahead of it's time in 1934

Very nice. You guys obviously LOVE your hockey. Pretty cool seeing some of the vintage uniforms and how they looked compared to today. I have seen some vintage uniforms that are pretty UGLY and some that are pretty cool. Boston has one uniform that is all gold and has the Bear on the chest. I think that one is pretty cool.
