** Message to ALL Clubs **

Does your club have what it takes to be the best of the best? Want to become the next star player in the 6’s community? Now is the time! LG is proud to bring to you the next generation of competitive hockey with the introduction of the E-Sports Hockey League! The E-Sports Hockey League (E-SHL) brings the opportunity for gamers to unite in one location to compete among the top players in the game. Games will showcase elite talent in this community as they battle to win the LG Cup, and even more… a monetary prize!! This event will be rolled out at the beginning of NHL 18, and will span 3 qualifying events, and one end of year playoff based on point totals for a grand prize!!

Even though the year-long LG Cup is slated to begin with the release of NHL 18, LeagueGaming is pleased to announce that we will be offering a special event for players to compete on NHL 17!! This mini event will be exclusive to PlayStation 4, as Xbox currently has another event sponsored by Greb, Mashley, and Marc Savard already taking place where the winning team earns themselves a free copy of NHL 18. Below are the details of the E-SHL event on PS4 for NHL 17:

Structure of the E-SHL event on 17??

We will begin the E-SHL event on Sunday, May 14, 2017. It will span 6 full weeks – 4 weeks of regular season play, and 2 weeks of playoffs to determine a champion. Number of games played per week will be determined by the number of teams signed up for the event. The initial plan is to have approximately 7-10 games scheduled in each of the four weeks, for a total of 28-40 games. The last day for registration in this event will be Sunday, May 7,2017.

    How will playoffs work??

There will be 3 rounds of playoffs played over 2 weeks. Rounds 1 and 2 will be Best of 5 series, and Round 3 (finals) will be a Best of 7 series. Round 1 will be played in between the days of Sunday-Tuesday of Week 5. Round 2 will be played in that same week between Wednesday-Saturday. Round 3 (finals) will be played in Week 6. There will not be a 3rd place game in this tournament. Pay outs will only be given to first and second place. They will take a split at 65/35 percent of the pot after league fees are deducted from the buy in.

As an added bonus, the winning team of this E-SHL event will be given free entry to the first qualifier in the LG Cup on NHL 18 on PS4!!! This free entry will allow the winning team’s roster (eligible for one replacement from entered roster in this event, to LG Cup) the opportunity to defend their title in the season long battle for the LG Cup!!

    How are games played??

Gone are the days of pre-scheduled games on LeagueGaming for the Pro Series events. LeagueGaming will now operate the E-SHL league on the challenge system. Each week, teams will be given 7-10 games that they are required to play based on the randomized schedule assigned to your team. No set time will be given to play the game, and it is your responsibility to organize a time to play your games with your opponent. Games scheduled for that week must be played within the predefined window set by LeagueGaming. This window will be from Sunday 12:00:01 am – Saturday 11:59:59 pm (7 full days). Games that are not played by week’s end will be given a 0-0 loss to both teams.

An appeal may be made to overturn the 0-0 loss to the committee providing sufficient evidence is given to why the game was not played. The burden of proof lies with the team owner making the appeal. If the appeal is granted, an extension of 48 hour will be given to mutually agree on a new time to play the game. Both teams will be required to show up for the game at that time, to play the scheduled game. If a team does not show, a 1-0 win will be given to the team ready to play at the specified time.

What is recorded from the games??

Each game played for the LG Cup, as well as this E-SHL event, are required to be recorded on LeagueGaming’s stat system on the website. LeagueGaming has partnered with EA in order to create a seamless transition between games played in the challenge system, and the website’s API. Games can be recorded on the website minutes after the game has been completed, and all stats will be tracked for the tournament!!

All games will be required to be streamed and archived for review. LeagueGaming’s website will save the Twitch stream, and attach it to the game for you once your account has been linked. The stream proves the game was played, and will be used to determine the outcome of any dispute between clubs.

How will standings and points in the event work??

Depending on the number of teams signed up, you may not play everyone over the 4 week season. As such, we have developed a system to accurately rank teams outside of wins, and losses. Teams will be ranked in the same way the HUT league rankings work currently on NHL 17. At the start of the season, each team will be assigned a baseline rating. As games are played, each club’s rating will increase/decrease based on the games won/lost. Not all wins will be viewed equally, however. Games will be weighted based on the opponent you are facing each week on your randomized schedule. If you beat a team that has a significantly lower ranking, you will not receive many points. If you beat a team that has equal or greater points than your club, however, you will see a substantial increase to the points earned for that win. This system is designed to give a more accurate picture to the rankings of each club than standings alone. A premium will be had for wins against better competition, and a stronger penalty will be given for losing games against weaker opponents. Playoffs will be determined by the top 8 teams at the conclusion of the 4 week season.

Roster guidelines, and buy in cost??

Rosters will be composed of 8 players on each team. The buy in cost for the event will be $120 ($15 per player). There will be no substitutions allowed for this tournament, and all rosters are deemed final on May 13, 2017 11:59:59 pm est. Players may be added to the roster if they are under the 8 man limit at any time throughout the event. No player may be removed once added to the roster.

Buy ins from each team are pooled together to create the pot in which teams are competing for. First and second place in this event will split the pot remaining at 65/35 percent. Again, there is no third place game. Only one buy in will be made for each qualifying roster, and is to be made by the team owner. Any payouts to the winning team will be made directly to the team owner. It is the team owner’s responsibility to collect, and disburse, all fund associated with this event. LeagueGaming is not responsible for the disbursement of funds to each member on the roster.

Who do I contact for information, appeals, and questions for this event??

All questions and information regarding this event can be answered by contacting me on LeagueGaming.com via personal message (@frostx17), or on PlayStation at: frostx17. When sending a PM regarding an E-SHL event issue or appeal, please include the following members: @LG McDonald, @frostx17, @Greb, and @mashle93. We look forward to your involvement in the E-SHL event on NHL 17, and your future involvement with the LG Cup!

I'm going to submit simple feedback. The idea to generate revenue and interest in the site/game is a good one, but I feel some tweeking may serve the community well.

    - Shorten the "seasons/term of each qualifier. 4 weeks + playoffs is a long time to keep interest peaked. Shorter duration encourages maximum interest and less screwing around which almost ensures commitment to teams.

    - Create more events. Teams go through changes all the time. If you follow these major "e-sport" leagues many rosters make a roster switches in between events to better there teams chances at a future event. But shortening seasons and creating more seasons it allows teams to be creative and make changes to enhance their chances at the championship event that people need to qualify for.

    - Attach "pro points" to players, not teams. Have a ranking system like MLG uses to rank players based of their event performance and online qualifying events. Team points are then accumulated at the end of the year for final roster submissions to determine seeding for the "LG Cup." Teams that have accumulated more points have the opportunity to play on home ice.

    - Reduce buy in from $15 to $10 dollars. By creating more events you tap into more revenue. Don't take a significant cut of the revenue for operating something that is already on the site that is implemented for free. This website is driven by the community and being fair to that community will equal long term success for your product. Especially in a "beta run". It may also interest players not as well known in the community to sign up from the ahl or chl leagues.

Small example of annual revenue expected:
*assuming small growth of team participation with decrease in team but in.

    Running 3 events @ $15

    $120 x 25 teams (optimistic) x 3 events = $9000~

    Running 8 or 9 events @ $10

    $80 x 30 teams (optimistic) x 7/8 events = $16,800/$19,200

    - More events lead to more opportunities to win for more community members to gain an invite to a championship event. Create individual incentive. Refunded entry for things like tournament leading scorer, best defenseman, outstanding goalie tournament performance. The more opportunities people have to win the more likely they are to play.

Not everybody wins the lottery, but the possibility of winning a free ticket or a couple of dollars is enough to make you buy a ticket weekly.

    @Tris10 @frostx17 @LG McDonald

    - There are also other things to be considered like how not many people are going to be thrilled about scheduling 10 games with 10 different owners finding the ideal time. Being given a fix schedule with no game limits would be the ideal way to schedule something like this, with the option to play games outside the scheduled time slot if agreed upon.

I appreciate the feedback you have given. This announcement is exclusive to the event being held on 17. Understand there are other changes (many of which you have mentioned) that will be implemented on the large scale tournament in 18, but cannot happen within one single event. There are shorter seasons, more qualifiers, and a reduced buy in that will be had on 18 that cannot happen with a single event on 17. Some of the things you discussed have been gone over in detail in preparation leading up to the announcement made about the event on 18. This obviously right now looks like a hybrid of the old format, but in a way it has to. Again, this is only one event.... not the multiple events that lead to the year end playoff event.

In terms of scheduling, we are simply asking all teams that pay to play an event to simply organize their own games. Creating an advanced schedule that best fits every single team when people's avail changes is almost impossible. Furthermore, rescheduled games is almost a nightly thing with teams in every single pro series leading up to this event. When you make a reschedule, you organize a new time with the team you are playing against before submitting it to be moved. Why can't teams do this for all games? When you buy in to the tournament, you are agreeing to play games that are associated with that event. Most of these clubs are active daily, and many times you know and play with these same guys. Simply removing LG from the equation allows teams to do what they do when organizing reschedules, without the need of constant game time changes by league staff.

We will continue to discuss how to make this the best event for everyone in 18, and I ask that you bare with us until that exact announcement is made. I think you, as well as many others who are reading this, are jumping ahead of us in the direction this event is going. As for this event, it was intended to offer players on 17 the opportunity to play in a single event that mimics what many have come to know and enjoy. At the same time, implementing small changes to see how things run on 17 help us prepare for the main event that does span multiple events on 18.

Like I said. I appreciate your feedback. Just understand that many of the points you have made have been spoken about in great detail for many hours before this post was made. This is not going to be the event guidelines on 18, but exclusive only to this event on 17. Some of the parts used in here, however, will be transitioned over to the lg cup. It is necessary to see how thing work before heading into the lg cup, and this event gives us the chance to do just that. At the end of the day, what we are trying to accomplish is bigger than just one single event, and it should be expected that traditional tournament settings will be changed. I think it will make substantially more sense when you see the format for the LG cup in 18 why we are doing the things we are doing the things we are!

Thanks again for the feedback. We are attempting to make this great for everyone involved, and are excited about the direction we are taking this long term!! All I ask is everyone understands many of the same things people have been speaking about have already been planned for the LGCup on 18. The only reason this event is being played on 17 is to offer players on PS4 the opportunity to play in one last event before the new game is released

The prizes will be substantially better than just a game or hut pack. We will detail the prize structure in the LG Cup when that time comes. Again, this event on 17 is just a modified version of pro series while we prepare for the LG Cup in 18

From experience even a full week often isnt enough time for teams to find game times that work for them. I agree that forcing playoffs to be done much more quickly is important though.

You can only change 1/8 players going into NHL 18!??? Uh...

Good Luck with this. Even with pre-determined times team owners couldnt effectively organize 6/10 members of their team to show up, now they have to plan the time themselves and get 6/8 guys to show up, it could get real ugly.

This is beyond stupid. An elo system does not mix with a scheduled system. Teams who face the shit teams early on due to RNG get easier points, while teams that face good teams early on get fucked. Going into the last week of the season you play 2 shit teams, even going 4-0 won't push you into the playoffs. If you're going to use an elo system, remove the schedule all together, have teams play like previous gen pro series. Play as many games as you want, but you need to play more than 25 to be eligible for the playoffs.

Seeding points per player based on placings.

That way even if complete team turnovers happen elite teams will remain elite.

I've worked with Nuge for 7 or so seasons in the pro series and can say first hand he has the vision and experience required to oversee and run a league so we should all take his advise and his views seriously.

Nuge lead the community to the point we are at today and we all owe him for that.

Today however we are at a point where we have spent time to step back and reconstruct a new vision, a modern type of pro league to grow and expand the community.

It is different. Different can be scary for some. But as a community we have a ton of experience and this is a vision of what the community can grow too and I'm proud of the work Brodie, frost and myself have put into this new venture

It's also easy to shit on things too cuz its on the internet.

As of today we have our first sponsor who will be giving over $1000 in physical prizes (more on this laster) , this is just the start to this larger idea

Also if you do not agree with this vision, the great thing is you don't need to participate. But if you come in with an open mind and understand that we are trying to reboot and grow this community for everyone then I invite you to.come and join us.

I feel like 8 person roster is cutting it to tight should be at least 10-15. The nhl community is already small. The amount of
People who club regularly is slim. This allows more of the community to get involved grow the event to the point where 8 man
Rosters seem realistic. To get 12 people to all agree on a time and date is no easy feat..

Maybe for the playoff rounds cut it to 8 players
With said players having to have played so many games.

Whats the cash prize amount? If its petty money like the old pro series its really not worth the time. In the past for the most part we all didnt care about the money that much because it was a chance to play competitive 6s but now with the game being as awful as it is i think most people are trying to find ways not to play. Good job on the sponsor tho im sure this will be sweet further down the line. We need Dota money lol.

Just wanted to give my two cents on this events and compare some of the discussions that have been had for future events that are going to occur.

There seems to be a bit of confusion in regards to the events for NHL 17 and the future ideas we are looking at for NHL 18.

The event coming up will be a one off event whereby some of the new ideas and structures that were discussed will be implemented and tested out.

The prizing structure for this event willl differ a bit from how we are considering setting up the event in NHL 18 as well.

These event coming for NHL 17 allows for the PSN community to experience a competitve event similar(not the exact same) to Pro Series during NHL 17 while the Xbox Community is participating in their own Year End Playoff that LG has committed to support.

I personally felt that announcing the new changes was key and having not just an Xbox year end event was also extremely important. The PSN community has grown extremely quickly and has become a major part of what we do here on LG.

Great feed back thus far. I know we have read a few things already that we haven't really considered since we have started to review and evaluate this new structure and how we want to add it in for a single event then transition to our larger scale events as discussed for NHL 18.

I think having an open mind is key. Many many people were disappointed when Nuge stepped away from the Pro Series scene and the future wasn't clear in the direction LG was going to head moving forward. Now that there has been some clarity added and we have an official event announced it should give the community a little bit to be excited about again since many players have asked over the course of a few months when was the next event going to begin.

I'm currently away on family vacation therefore I am limited on what I can and cannot post. When I return and we get this NHL 17 PSN event off the ground we will be able to give the community more answers about what we the plans are going to be for NHL 18 and our official LG Cup Events.

    The TLDR;

    NHL 17
    -one off event
    -similar buyin
    -similar payout
    -new scheduling* testing it
    -smaller rosters* testing it

    NHL 18
    -4 events, linked together
-implementing a point system for teams to advance to the LG Cup(playoff event different from the other three events)
-looking at minor changes to the buy-in to see a % of the main events buy in also be pooled together for the final event BUT still give prizes for teams whom win the individual events.
-use the new scheduling system (seeing how testing goes)
-using the smaller rosters (seeing how the testing goes)
-add sponsors to the events to ensure the prizing is as good as we can make it.

If you think my criticism was because "its the internet" or "its different", it was not. I want whatever you're doing to succeed, but the current plan is incredibly flawed. The elo system is great if teams are free to play when they choose, it is not great with a schedule of any kind in place. I'm not reiterating this because I'm salty or spiteful or whatever, it simply makes no sense.
