Bold Predictions for the S4 Season

Hey LGers, it's time for me to give my bold predictions for the upcoming season.

- An Eastern Conference team will win the Stanley Cup. CORRECT

- There will only be 3 goalies or less with a save percentage over 80%. CORRECT, goalies with over 3 GP.

- 5 players or more will finish the season with over 100 points. WRONG

- This season will be the most competitve season yet. CORRECT

- The awards will again be rigged. CORRECT

Can confirm the awards will not be rigged next season.

There will be strict criteria used for many of the awards next season based off statistics and will be heavily influenced by games played vs playoff and non playoff teams.

Glad to see @Foote stepping up to run the awards committee next season.

 

Not sure about the Cup going East but everything else looks accurate. It will be a challenge for most goalies but with their Dman can pick up the rebounds, they'll do fine.

 

If the current patch stands, this will happen.

 

With the amount of trades that happen during a season I don't see how playoff vs non playoff matters. Whole teams don't even look the same at week 9 vs week 1.

Strength of schedule has been heavily factored into awards given out in the past and it's hard to argue against statistical data that values competeion level.

I agree not all teams hold onto playoff spots for the entire season, but using strength of schedule (accumalitve winning percentage / games played) gives a projection of overall competition played by said player. Nothing can 100% represent true completion (line played, or factor in the players you played with), but it gives us something. That with valued perception can create for a stronger criteria for awards that we simply didn't have this season.

 

Bold prediction: @NotSuperNoVezina's save percentage will be under 75%.

Will you be looking at a when you play a playoff team's 3rd line or when you play a non playoff team's 1st line? Kinda pointless if you don't do this.

 

That's the plan if the resources are available to that future committee.
Some teams have a 1a / 1b situation, so it may be challenging. Especially when lines are broken up. In an ideal world it'd be nice to play with the same 5 players every game during the duration of the season, but it's not very realistic. You make a valid point, but right now we 100% have strength of schedule from a team perspective. In game match ups would certainly be a bonus.
