Hi there! Most of you don’t know who I am. I used to manage in the CHL for a bit, and I had a good time doing it. One thing that always bugged me about it was how difficult it is to get useful information before and during bidding, so you could find the real gems that were still available. I never thought it was fair that you had to be savvy with this specific site to easily get information that can help you build a team. It’s for those reasons that I give you this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17LCNITLICB9C6wTs77V3u2fat3gcwxTq6run6lAA8rU/edit?usp=sharing I call it “malfSheets”, mostly because I am dumb and not a creative boi. It is the career LG stats of every player that still remains available at every tier of LG they have played at the position that they signed up for this season. All of the taken players are filtered out of it. If you’re a C who has played at all 3 levels and you have not been nabbed yet, then you are on all 3 tabs on this sheet, “NHL Forwards”, “AHL Forwards”, “CHL Forwards”. If you’ve only played in the CHL, you would only appear on your respective position’s CHL tab. If you were taken in NHL bidding yesterday, then you ain’t on this sheet. You get it, right? No? Too bad. Moving on… For the forwards tabs, I have sorted the stats by points per game. I have also filtered out players with less than 10 games at the positions, because they skew the perspective, in my opinion. I also added a column for 24 game season points pace, because I think it’s a cool stat. The defensemen are sorted by PlusMinus per game, another stat I made up basically. Honestly I think defense is really hard to gauge by numbers, so I just look for winners who also have decent points or low giveaways. Goalies are sorted by save percentage, because duh. Anyway, I hope this pleases more people than it upsets. I have seen so many kind, caring, and attentive leaders fail in this league because they just weren’t savvy enough. If this helps one of those guys become a better manager, my work is done. Good luck in the coming season, everyone! -Malf PS – I may update the sheet later, filtering out taken players. No promises, I get bored and I think I have A.D.D.
Although I appreciate the work you've done, some of us actually bust our ass doing this on our own time and now the people that don't just get this kind of shit for free. Kinda sucks for the managers that put in a lot of time and effort not gunna lie.. Couldn't just wait and post it in CHL forums?
I won't insult your intelligence and pretend that I do not fully understand your frustration. I get where you are coming from, and I am sorry that this makes you feel this way. However, you are proving my point. I was very deliberate about what I am choosing to share. 100% of the information in the link I shared came from this very website and nothing else. I didn't share strategies, other sites to check, anything. The only modifications I made were simple formulas for "per game" stats.
Three things about this: 1. It's very impressive, well done. 2. To @Mxzzin's point, it kind of undervalues those who actually DO put it in the work. Somebody can be a nice guy, but not a good owner/leader (I could fall into that category, but I did a fair bit of homework this offseason), and defaulting to this instead of learning how to navigate the site and do the work is a bit of a shortcut. 3. To @JJ_Hilly's point, it should only focus on performance from this game and maybe one previous. In this case, maybe have a section that shows their stats from S21 & S22 so they could analyze performance on the current game, and then show their stats from S18-S20 to focus on the last game (just an idea). Looking at stats past S17 may be an inaccurate representation of one's current talent.
Sheet updated to remove players who have been won in bidding as of 7:30 AM EST. Might do another pass and do another update later today.
@malf922 the goat... if this site wasn't so abysmally bad and difficult to navigate in quick/easy ways, then this wouldn't have happened. So to those getting on malf, direct your frustrations to LG itself, which is being run on archaic forum technology with functions/features all cobbled together over the years.
Lunch break update: Players that have been won in bidding have been removed from the sheet as of 12:35 PM today.
