s20 WJC POST - DRAFT POWER RANKINGS

I am not going to waste your time, so ill just get right into it. If you don't agree with my evaluation of your team, that's fine, just prove me wrong then. Here are my (opinion) post-draft power rankings going into the first week of WJC Season 20:


1. Italy

This comes without any doubt. @Eamonn is arguably one of if not the best managers currently in the C and he flexed his knowledge of the draft board by piecing together what may be one of the best teams to ever take the ice in LG WJC.


Forwards: A+
Defense: A+
Goaltending: A


Expectation: Champion

Expect a near-flawless run from this team. Anything short of gold is a failure.


2. Great Britain


When I first saw that @Oh So Country was going to be management, I automatically assumed he'd have a super team, like in previous Windsor seasons. Although he still has a good team, especially for this WJC, I was expecting more. Maybe Eamonn just was that good. We will see in a few weeks.

Forwards: A-
Defense: A-
Goaltending: B+


Expectation: 2nd / 3rd Seed

3. Sweden

You could tell @Chab x 19 listened to the show and took note of some of the great players in the draft. This roster looks very solid and they have a top player in each position group. However, their management group could hold them back. Expect Sweden to be one of the top teams.

Forwards: A-
Defense: B+
Goaltending: A-

Expectation: 2nd / 3rd Seed


4. Belarus

Ill start off by saying I expected much better from @Swizz Wrld. With his mem-cup history, I really thought he would have built a better roster. Some of his picks were questionable, but I'm sure he had reasoning behind them. Overall the team isn't bad, I just think his experience should have shown a bit more than it did. They do have a solid management group, but in an ideal world, your managers shouldn't be the best players on the team.

Forwards: A-
Defense: B+
Goaltending: B


Expectation: 2nd / 3rd Seed

5. Japan

@Daggz x17 did a pretty decent job building this roster. There is a lot to like with their likely first line of Razorgods - Traequon - Berpyyy. I like their depth a lot too, but it likely won't be enough to get to the big game.

Defense: B+
Goaltending: B

Expectation: 3rd / 4th Seed

6. Norway

I actually really like this team a lot. It could be a sneaky team to upset a couple of the top dogs. @Chickenlegzzz continues his success from the last WJC into Season 20. Goaltending could be the weakness that could hold this team back.

Forwards: B+
Defense: A-
Goaltending: B

Expectation: 3rd / 4th Seed

7. Germany

@Kookz and co decided to go chem over skill in a draft with a ton of talent. I can respect it because these guys play a lot together, but it will only get you so far against some of these other teams. They do have the X-Factor Stud in net, @Sargent2411. So expect a shutout every game from him.

Defense: B-
Goaltending: A++++++++

Expectation: 3rd / 4th Seed

8. Switzerland

@Turris x 7 and @CoastPlaysTV drafted just about every 3s player in this draft. Overall it's a solid roster and I expect them to compete for a playoff spot.

Forwards: B+
Defense: B-
Goaltending: B+

Expectation: Bubble Team

9. Netherlands

@BarDownNinja did a pretty good job drafting this team considering it was his first time in full control. You can tell he did his research, unlike some other managers. However, his choices for management partners are what might hold this team back.

Forwards: B
Defense: B+
Goaltending: B

Expectation: Bubble Team

10. Russia

This is actually a pretty solid roster, however, unlike the better rosters, they lack top-tier players that would compete with the better teams’ top lines. They do have a lot of depth though, so if a couple of bounces go their way they could find themselves in the playoffs.

Forwards: B+
Defense: B
Goaltending: B-

Expectation: Bubble Team

11. Austria

I do not know a whole lot about Austria’s management team, but they did have some good picks, but nothing that jumps off the page.

Forwards: B
Defense: B-
Goaltending: B-

Expectation: Bubble Team

12. Jamaica

This is yet another team that did not do a lot of research. They had a solid start by taking @Pastrnak x88 and @JohnnyV76V back to back but failed to surround them with other good talents. There are some good names on the team, but they could have done better. Overall it is a solid team, but you're going to need some bigger names to get over the hump.

Goaltending: B+

Expectation: Bubble Team

13. Denmark

This looks to be a team of common names, which means it seems there wasn't a whole lot of prep and research that went into drafting the team. I do like the reunion of the Jacksonville guys. @Ducky x6 at 85th was a steal IMO, looking at the center depth in this draft. But there were some head-scratchers that make you wonder if this team is just playing to have fun.

Expectation: Bubble Team

14. Canada

I think we all knew what this team was going to be like when they took @BigPaulerBrand first overall. Don't get me wrong, Pauler is a great player and an even better discord presence, but when you have a big-time NHLer you do not let him fall, especially to Eamonn. Anyways, Canada rebounded as the draft went on. They are looking to rely on the @eNeRGiZeR 45 and @BUCKEYEJU1CE chem. We will see how that goes, but I don't think Canada is as bad as people say it will be.

Goaltending: C+

Expectation: Bubble Team

15. South Korea


This is yet another solid team, but again lacks any of the top-tier players. I really just see a lot of depth players who could become top-line players in most WJCs but unfortunately not this WJC. @V 4 T T Y
usually gets a bad wrap when it comes to WJC, but look for him to change history and get to a medal game, but it's unlikely with some of the super teams already built.

Expectation: Miss Playoffs


16. Finland

Now this team is the literal definition of a friend's team. @SUPERM4RIO66 and the boys decided to draft all of their guys, which can work at times, but not when there are teams of superior skill and talent. If these guys are just trying to have a good time, then good on them. I just feel for the guys like Ryne who were unlucky to end up there.

Goaltending: B


Expectation: Miss Playoffs

17. USA

@W McCauley 4 and @Flamingo Dab built a pretty solid roster. The defense is a bit questionable. They do have the forwards to outscore their opponents but I do not think they have the depth to make any kind of playoff run. Time will tell with this team.

Expectation: Miss Playoffs


18. France

These guys had nearly 24 hours to fix their @Dylaniscool61 pick and still somehow messed it up. I'm sorry to @TANNYBOY6 I'm sure you are a very good player, but again, take the best available player! That being said, the rest of the roster is meh.

Goaltending D+


Expectation: Last Place
