Whaaaat's up fellas? Little late night drop for the boys. @ASAP Jiren and I are back with another episode focused on the Wild Card race and gave our predictions about who's in and who's out at the end of next week. We also revisited some guys that were moved last week and took a peek at how they're doing a week into their games with their new squads. As always we go through our Players of the Week, too. We had the pleasure of getting @NINETY ElGHT on the show for a great interview where he gave some really veteran insight on the playoff race as well as playoff strategy in general. Had a great time talking with him, and I know you guys will love hearing his perspective on various topics. 3:00 Players of the Week 10:15 Wild Card Predictions 32:30 Trade Deadline Revisit 45:40 Start of the Ninety Eight interview Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6cCPnwYfzEZ03nJaOcWZLk Apple Pocasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/lg-outsiders/id1498400100?uo=4 Anchor (Host site): https://anchor.fm/lgoutsiders Enjoy guys.
I thought it was interesting how Jiren brought up the idea of hiding the teams/lineups on the schedule until right before gametime to help reduce scrubhunting. I understand that there's some strategy involved in scheduling, but at the end of the day this would create a balance in terms of easy/difficult matchups for everyone. I like this idea. A much bigger issue of "power to the players" is the players' ability to no-show, demand trades, quit, or cancer their way off of bad teams with absolutely no repercussions. It's a double-edged sword because as much as owners would love to ban the player that is abusing his/her power, it's not smart to get them banned because it then puts the entire team at a disadvantage. Maybe owners would be more inclined to enforce the rules if they could earn a certain number of 4th round draft picks (1 pick per $1mil?) as compensation for players that were either banned or quit? Just an idea. One last question I wanted to ask... Why are there even "scrubs" to hunt in the NHL? Would a 2-line league solve this?
This is intriguing, because for example, if Stifmeister would've been stuck here in Long Island and quit, that'd be 12 4th Round Picks LOL
If you shortened the draft to 3 rounds let’s say you could have compensation picks at the end of each round based on salary ranges... for example: - $0.5-$3m: 3rd round pick - $3.5-$7m: 2nd round pick - $7.5m+: 1st round pick You’d have to look at the ban numbers to see if it even makes sense, but at least this would allow owners to get some type of value for a lost asset.
Yeah, but it is something that we, as Managers, could bring up to protect ourselves, especially now with all trades being no-comp. It's an interesting thought.
Thanks for the content @ChiToWnB3atD0wN. It has to have been years since the NHL had any type of media that wasn't just 1 or 2 random write ups during a season. Keep up the good work
Thanks man it’s been pretty fun doing this with Jiren so it’s been easy to do for everyone. Minus editing Jiren’s million coughs/throat clears an episode. Guy sounds like he chain smokes Malboro Reds.
